I've been having this annoying problem for a while now. This issue does not happen on my Zune software, so it should not be a metadata problem.
Issue is the I can't organize all my songs in wmp11 by newest to oldest. I've tried arranging by date added, but it does not work. All the dates are the same regardless of the date I actually downloaded/added the mp3 to the folder I've assigned wmp11 to monitor automatically. A newly obtained song today vs a song I've had a year ago both show up as having the same "date added" date under that column.
Trying the "date created" column works the FIRST time I play a song. Right after I click play the date "magically" disappears. Basically, my "date created" column is blank with no dates...
It is annoying to find/play my new songs when this feature does not work.

Hmmm... works for me. (See attached screenshot.)
Thanks for the tip... I never knew I could add the "Date Added" column. I like that.
I believe, though, that "Date Added" is the date it was imported into your WMP library -- not the date you added it to the folder or to the disk or anything.Attached Files:

Mine, too, works fine. I really wanted to help out, but I can't here. Sorry about that.

Does your Date Created column work? Look at mine...it's all blank. The weird thing is that when I first add a song to wmp11, the Date Created date shows up. However, when I play it for the first time, the date "disappears" and now all my columns are blank under Date Created...?

My 'Date Created' column works as well.
-
=\ I don't know why mine does that....it shouldn't have anything to do with metadata right? I use mp3tag v2.42 to edit metadata of songs.
-
^^^Though I can't say with 100% definitiveness, I don't believe your problem is being caused by metadata. Again, though, I can't say 100% if it's the culprit or not. When did you begin having the problem, and did you notice the problem before or after you downloaded/installed/ran mp3tag v2.42? Also, does their website say anything about incompatibility with whatever your current configuration may be?

I just added the "Date Created" column and it seems to work fine for me. I tried playing a few tracks and I have not seen it blank out that column on any of them.

About 90% or more have Sept. 7, 2008... but that's probably the date I copied them to this hard drive.
Everything I've downloaded since then has a more recent creation date (and there are a bunch of different newer dates), so I do have a fair amount of stuff with newer creation dates. -
My setup:
I have set wmp11 to monitor folder "music" which I created and is located at c:\music
That is where I keep all of my song files. Everytime I add a new song into the folder, wmp11 automatically adds it to wmp11's song collection.
Initially, I see the correct date of creation. However, after playing the song once in wmp11 after adding it to music folder, the "date created" date disappears and the song is moved to the bottom of the list of all of my songs(which basically all have no "date created" date due to this bug) -
Alright, I think I've figured out what is causing this weird problem. It IS something to do with the metadata, or at least the program I use to edit metadata, MP3tag v2.24.
If I do not edit the mp3 with this program, WMP11 does not have any issues with the "date created" date disappearing after I play the song once. However, if I do edit the mp3 with the program, the "date created" date disappears after the first play.
WEIRD.....I wonder if users/coders of mp3tag know of this issue. And if that is so, there should be more people who've encountered this bug...?
Any recommendations for different mp3 metadata editing tools? -
or you can edit metadata right in Explorer (if you have Vista)...
or you could see if a newer version of mp3tag might fix it...
or yeah there's a bunch of other programs out there... -
Glad you were able to figure it out. I didn't think it was MP3tag because I've known many who use that program and it works flawlessly with WMP. Regardless, it's good that you know what's causing the problem and you can rectify it.
-
I use mp3tag because the editing done to the metadata is recognized under Zune software/player....not sure if there are better alternatives that do not affect wmp11
-
Did you do the edits in mp3tag before or after importing into wmp11? I don't know but I'm guessing that maybe editing it after it's imported gets the file out of sync w/ the wmp database and that that might confuse it somehow.
