My desktop ran Windows Media Center horribly. Load times for the menus and effects were atrocious. But this was understandable since it only had a Geforce 6150, 1gb Ram, and a slow processor.

However, I just got my Vostro, T7500, 2.5gb Ram, Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT and it STILL LAGS! What gives? I thought my specs would be good enough to run it smoothly.

My PC originally came with XP. In XP this computer is very fast and stable. However, in Vista its not as quick and the lags in Windows Media Center are beginning to upset me.

First of all, why is this happening and how can I get better performance?

You do have the correct graphics drivers installed on your new laptop right?

I got the Drivers from Dell. So far, it seems right. I tried playing Halo 1, and the game lagged a little bit on Vista. On XP, however, it played perfectly. Is this a problem with Vista and are there better drivers out there?

Vista runs at a much higher level than XP, I think upgrading to 2GB would make it run much more smoothly

When i had 1GB of RAM while running Vista, i can't even play Tom Clancy Vegas. It just lags there while the data is being swapped from the virtual memory. So it will be a good idea to add in another stick of memory.

Oh yeah 2 gigs of RAM does wonders.

    definitely...

I just added a 2gb stick so now I have 2.5 gb ram, and Vista runs faster than XP.
