I don't know which to choose to use. Which has better features? Which is safer? Which would run better on a laptop (Asus A6)? Give me all your opinions as well as the ups and downs of both software.
Thanks!

iTunes wins hands down, i have used both for long periods of time, iTunes has loads of features but stays simple for the casual user where as windows media player seems to be confusing and harder to use comfortably

WMP.
I've tried using both, and well... iTunes is utter crap man. Took me forever to find where to add songs to the library, then it does weird crap with tryign to organize your songs. On top of that, and a few other issues I have with itunes, WMP gains another point cause my media control keys on my keyboard work with WMP, not iTunes.
Plus WMP can be minimized in the toolbar and have your controls display there. -
Looks like a match. I want to choose the one that gets the greater amount of replies/opinions in order to make my decision.
I may be getting an iPod this weekend, so that might be another addition in getting/using iTunes. More comments/feedback is appreciated though. -
Hey, why not try both yourself? They are both free...
I'll end up using iTunes when I get my mac since the remote works for it. Just try each and whichever you like the best... use it. -
itunes sucks. It uses way too many resources, and is very slow in loading large collections of music.
I suggest winamp. There are many things you can do with winamp, for example add a Dynamic Library (updates your song list automatically) and also use Cd Album Display, which displays cover-art. -

Personally, I prefer WMP11 over iTunes. If we're talking WMP10 or older vs. iTunes... obviously iTunes. But WMP11 is better IMO. The UI is nicer, it finds things just as quickly, and it's much more user friendly. It organizes your music and separates them by artist, album, genre, or whatever you want, and there are clear distinctions between each object wheras iTunes just gives you a long list in alphabetical order. Also, album art is found automatically off the Internet when you rip a CD or even transfer mp3 files whereas in iTunes you have to manually import album art... or at least you did when I had it. The one thing that iTunes has over WMP11 is that you can share music over a network easier, but most of the time you can't get those to play anyway because of bandwidth restrictions. Of course, if you're getting an iPod, then you want to go iTunes definitely.

Itunes is great if you have really figured out how it foes to organize your music, if you don't you will be with a bunch of music in difrent folders.
Maybe WMP is alittle bit easier to use, but one you get the hang of it, itunes is the winner for me. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Itunes 7 is great.

I am thinking of getting an iPod this weekend, as stated, so iTunes might be the way to go. However there is nothing wrong with getting both is there? I just don't want to USE both cause then I will have to update information and add files which would take double the time...
Thanks for the replies so far. -
iTunes as I am a 2 iPod housedold. WMP seems to covoluted for me. I think WinAmp is much better even though its an AOL product.
-
The new iTunes 7 beats any and all versions of WMP for music playback.
However when i comes to the video feature of iTunes, i have to say that it could be a lot better than it currently is.
so:
Music - iTunes 7
Video - WMP Classic -
itunes 7 is quality.
-
still using winamp 5 - a bit retro, but it does everything I need with a tiny memory footprint....
-
- Adding music by dragging and dropping it into iTunes seems like a good way to do things.
- The library is organized in simple and logical way. If your tags are incorrect or missing, then it could be a problem. I keep my tags as nice as I can, so I've never had a problem with it. You just have to make sure that you disable the "Keep iTunes Music Library Organized" thing. That would be a pain in the ---.
- If you get the MultiPlugin or the Microsoft InteliType Keyboard program, the media keys should work. I guess it varies with each notebook, but my Dell media keys work perfectly.
- You can have iTunes collapse into the taskbar and the controls are visible.
I wish iTunes would include a little pop-up thing that would come up when the song changes (when the player resides in the task bar). I don't usually use the task bar option, but I don't like not being able to see the song. Of course, I can just hover over the iTunes icon and it'll show it.
I can understand why a lot of people still use WMP (it would be my second choice for a library manager and media player), but I love iTunes.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Itune Is Way Better Trust Us

iTunes is better.
Its easier to use IMO, sleeker, more organized, and way better looking than Windows Media Player, no offense.
I am not a Mac user, I'm a faithful Windows guy, but I have to say that iTunes wins. -
I'm a WMP_11 lover. I just want it to come out of beta.... Something took look at would be the Creative Vision M. That is a great player. Better menu functioning than the ipod imo.

I use WMP 11.
I signed up for Urge, $9.95 a month and you can download all the music you want. You can't burn 'em to a cd, or copy them to an MP3 player (although, for another $5 per month, you *can* copy them to an MP3 player) but I really like being able to download an check out albums.
Most albums I purchase, I end up listening to for a month or so, then moving on. And, if I find an album I really like (Bob Dylan's new album is actually really good!) I can always either purchase the CD or buy the album online.
Once you stop paying, you lose all access to the albums you downloaded from Urge (well, at the end of your month), but for ten bucks a month, it's a great deal! -
Why choose one?
I-tunes, the best for adding and playing music VIA playlist, I also like the music store that lets you sample 30sec of any song you want. (easier than VH1). Very Easy to listen to Podcasts compared to other players.
(make sure you don't let I-tunes sort your files, click the manual box)
WinAmp, I associate all my music and video files with winamp. Click on any file and winamp bring it up faster than any other program. (NOT GOOD FOR LARGE SIZE MOVIES THO.) I will always use the classic skin
WMP11, Like the default skin. I never tried Urge tho. Does not work with active sync tho (wmp10 does). Not to mention websites use this alot for plug-ins. WMP11 works very nicely with non-ipod mp3 playes like Creative micro zen.
Quicktime7 You'll end up needing this sooner or later if you surf alot. Quicktime is great if you have pro-version key. It has nice features but is not to compatible.
Realplayer10 You'll end up needing this too. I just don't like this player for some reason, but have it incase I run into .rm files.
DivX I download alot of movies, so I need this, or at least the codec. -
Thanks for all your replies. So far, iTunes is the best bet in many of your opinions. It is much appreciated all and I think I have come up with a decision. I'll tell you when it's finalised.
