I recently got a new m14x windows 7 and its flying machine brilliant but then one day i put in a DVD and i get this:
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
so tried everything to fix it, i installed load of new codec packs
KLITE
Windows Essential
Media player codec pack
and loads more
and it works when i installed each one but when when i restart the computer it dosent work again, im all out of options even tried Microsoft fix it which resets windows media player fully and it worked but then once again after reboot back to square one.
Im now using vlc player which works perfectly but i would be nice to have it working!

I think no one responed because this was posted in XP and Vista, I asked the moderators to move it to a more often viewed forum.
Anyway I have had success in WMP 12.... using Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs -

FYI WMP a poor play to use to watch DVD/BD media - IMO. You will either need something like WinDVD 11 pro that will permit you to play DVD/BD movies properly. -
I don't see where the OP says he had a DVD/BD disk. Just DVD. But we need more info on what was on that DVD that didn't play.

Since VLC works and Windows Media Player works (after reboot) then it's almost certainly between the DVD decoder and Windows Media Player; they have copy protection software that sometimes fails to start correctly. Does your DVD work when you eject the disc, then reinsert it?
