In the past, most PCs had one main partition and possibly a recovery partition. More often it seems new PCs are shipped with a partition for the OS and one for data. I've heard that this can protect your data, but from what exactly? If you plan on removing an OS and installing/ reinstalling an OS?
Also, I've recently helped some friends purchase new computers which will arrive in the next week. They will also be receiving a free copy of Windows 7 when it is released. So, since they will be installing a new OS, it is advisable that they have a sizable partition for their data, to protect their data during the OS switch, correct?
Also, what would you all suggest is the best size for an OS partition?
