Great idea, Chaz. The Windows forum has a lot of great guides that can't really be stickied (as there would be too much). Hopefully this new index will allow these guides to get more attention :).

And its about time for someone to write a guide about antivirus ;).

Which i would gladly do if you'd like Chaz. I've sent you a pm about it. You see myself and some other members (like Sam) think there needs to be a thread like that and it'd be no problem for me to make it for you to lighten your work load.

This isnt very smart.

Before, I clicked like 9-10 times the vista tweaks thread. Today I havent clicked it not even ONCE.

Is that the point? Becuase if that is the point, then this is the way to go.

But why mess with other people´s post? Well I dont know, Im no moderator..

In case you didn't notice it was a moderator who made this change. And even with this consolidation of the "stickies" it does NOT prevent the individual threads from popping back to the top if they have updates. All this change did was allow multiple "stickie" threads to be presented in a single line, without having to loose so much space for the three that were taking up space EVEN when they hadn't been updated in days. AND it allowed the moderator to add a bunch of "minor stickies" to other important threads here.

I tend to agree with Calot although I respect that the choice to do this allows others, termed Minor Threads, to get more visibility.

With respect to only the Tweaking thread however, even though Chaz has allowed me to unsticky it so it gets bumped as comments are received, I have already seen a decine in the number of hits. This is respective of new visitors who open the topic and can't resist checking out the tweaks. I have received many comments through that method.

Is there any way to sticky the Tweak Thread below the 'General Sticky Index' thread solely because of the number of hits it gets daily and the number of people it is potentially bringing to the site? I include the last part as I have had atleast two pm's where the author stated they came after hearing of that thread...

I will "restick" the Vista Tweaking thread for now but your thread is subject to being unstick at any time.

The "Top Vista Tweaks You Can Find!" link need to be renamed to "NBR Member Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide" because as it is now half of the link goes to the auto refer link for Vista.

Thanks for the catch. I changed it to 'NBR's Members Tips and Tweaks Guide for Vista' so that the thread link would be preserved better(once you add 'vista' the autolinks kick in and it overides the orginal link- cutting half of it out)

While we're at it, why don't you change "Creating The Ultimate Windows XP(or Vista) Installation CD/DVD" to
"Creating The Ultimate Installation CD/DVD for Windows XP/Vista" so it gets more thread link instead of autolink. I also think making the Security sub-forum a big link should do some good. Or maybe as a way to circumvent the extra renaming you just change the beginning to "This is an index of all major Software and Windows XP/Vista/Software/other threads; the main ones are listed up top in large font and more minor ones are at the bottom." or similar so that autolink doesn't get used in the later links.

Thx for the suggestion. I was going to just put "Vista Vista Vista" in scrolling pink letters but your way is more professional ;).

I dont think the subforum text should be bigger since before you click on the index sticky, you should notice a link to the Security sub-forum above.

Here we go, after some playing around i found out why Vista wasn't being used by the decoy and created a workaround. Use this:
PHP:
This is an index of all major Software threadsAlong with some important Windows XP and Vista threadsaccompanied by a few miscellaneous threadsthe main ones are listed up top in large font and more minor ones are at the bottomPlease post security and anti-virus related questions in this sub-forum.

The second-to-last thread in this sticky, "Firefox Tips, Tricks, and Discussions" probably should link to the Firefox 3 thread now unless you specify that the link refers to FF2. In which case, the FF3 thread should probably be linked in the first post as well.

I was wondering if you could possibly add a thread about Vista's System Restore and Shadow Copy. I still see some questions about user's disappearing HD space and thought it would be good to add. I found this thread which does an excellent job of explaining all HD space related issues:

This question is probably best asked in the Acer Forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22

Create a new thread there, you will get more specific responses than in the Windows Forum. Good luck!

I followed the instructions on the first page. I downloaded the ISO downloaded the program that removes the ei.cfg and use the Win7 utility to make a bootable USB.

The ei.cfg appeared in the source directory in my USB. When I deleted it I got the option to install several types of Win7.
