Hi,
Sorry, if this is supposed to be posted in another forum. Staff, please re-direct if necessary.
When purchasing a system certain companies offer a Windows Optimisation service, what does this involve, and would running a maintenance program that edits registries undo these changes? The company I purchased my system from are not providing details as to what was modified except mentioned power settings and what not.

It would be helpful to know what service you're talking about specifically.

Copied and pasted from the website:
Windows Optimisation is available for both Windows 7 and Windows 8 based PCs.
Unleash the power of Windows by ordering our Windows Optimisation service which will dramatically increase the performance of your OS! You can expect your system to start up faster, start applications more quickly and run more smoothly! We do this by optimising services and features for each individual PC spec, which makes the OS feel far more responsive. The tweaks we perform depend entirely on the components you select. If you choose a fast solid state drive or a powerful video card, for example, we will optimise the OS to make best use of these features. Your operating system will also be fully updated and any new drivers released since our installation images were created will be installed. Optimisation takes a Chillblast engineer around an hour to complete and the resulting system will be noticably more responsive!
Windows 8:
- Install Classic Shell Start Menu replacement
- Optimise power management for maximum performance
- Optimise Aero Interface
- Tweak services and registry for optimal performance
- Change idle hard disk usage patterns and Virtual Memory settings
- Install all updates, service packs, hot fixes and ensure correct integration
- Shipping day driver check for any new updates -
I'm moving this to the Windows forum.
As for the "service"

Thanks for the reply.
It's for a Desktop, but it sounds it's basic stuff, so I'll just ignore it. -

NEVER update your drivers unless you are experiencing any problems with the current ones. From my experience and long testing, updated drivers never gave me any better performance with the exception of the video card drivers those should be up to date
That optimization you are talking about is a lot of stuff you can do on your own or snake oil.
I would never EVER trust any program to touch or tweak my registry settings or services! they will just cripple your computer if anything -
And this on their website: "This product can be purchased only as a part of other product. " ...It's not clear what that means as I could not find out what other product you need to purchase in order to purchase this product.
But I had no-script enabled so maybe there was a popup that may have explained that statement. -
I hate stores that offer 'extra' services like these and take non-savvy customers for a ride.
I wouldnt pay a cent for those basic changes when you can do it yourself.katalin_2003 and Jarhead like this. -

In a system with a lot of bloatware this can make a difference but all this can be done by the user. The biggest issue is if you are not savvy enough to do this to begin with then over time the system will get bogged down anyway. It is amazing how you can take an older system and do a fresh decluttered OS install and those non savvy users fall back in love with it. No more immediate need for a new system.
Just recently did this for a 4 year old desktop and lower end Vista dell laptop for my ex-brother in law. Put both on a fresh Windows 7 install and he was happy as all get out. His only cost was the one OEM Windows 7 disk for the laptop.
So in the end this can be a value added service for some but it also could be depreciated very shortly over time.
