I use Windows Photo Gallery to open images, but its VERY slow to load a picture.
When I first open an image in a folder, it takes a long time to open. After its loaded, I can see all other images in that folder at normal speed, but it slows down a lot when opening the first picture in a folder...
Is there a solution to this?
Any replacement software recomendations?
Thanks in advance.

use Picasa 3
-
Or Windows Live Photo Gallery.

Sounds like it is going ahead and parsing data / generating thumbnails for everything in that folder, probably why after the first picture, it's fine. Not sure there is anything you can do

I use Picasa 3 as well.

I remember trying Picasa a long time ago, but I didn't like it because it organized my pics only by date, and not according to the folders I had them in...
is this solved in 3? can I organize as I wish?
EDIT: just downloaded picasa 3 and seems great... I had ruled it out because I never liked Picasa 1, but this one has "tree view" for the folders, and the picture viewer is fast and stylish so far.. thanks for the replies! -
Windows Photo gallery is fast for me on up to 10 Mega Pixels - it sometimes is fast on large panoramas - 50 Megapixles do take awhile though - that's JPEG.
Canon Raw data files take longer to load though - possibly because the codec isn't perfect as Photohop or the Canon software open them immediately too.
