    Hello

I have a Dell Precision M4700 with Windows 7 Professional.

Everytime I open a photo with Windows photo viewer, I get the "COM surrogate error" and the program freezes.

I can go through a couple photos before I get this error.

Of course, I can view the photos using Windows photo gallery, but I would still like the photo viewer to work as well.

I have reinstalled Windows 7 Proffesional using the DVD from Dell, and I still get the error.

And of course, I contacted Dell and they tell me they are not going to fix this.

    Any help??

    WOW Thank you JOSEA

For reference, I installed Picasa Picasa, and it fixed the COM issue for me.

Yes, but Picasa always wants to index every photo on my computer all the time. Bummer so I uninstalled it. Windows Photo Viewer just displays your photos. Very small footprint and does it well. Is there a way to remove Photo Viewer and re-install?

I am fairly sure PV'er is part of the OS, If you are having issues with it you may want to try a repair install from DVD or other Win 7 media.

That should be a good thing for some. But if you don't want it, you should be able to select no, or designate the locations you it to manage.

I have Cyberlinks and it too wants to take over my photo/video management but I have the Adobe Suite so all that's taken care of by Bridge which does a much more useful job (and is linked to the rest of the suite) of it.

It use to happen to me in Win7 i read it might be cause by Kaspersky Antivirus which i was using at the time, but it does not happen in Win8 so all is good now.
