I am running a laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit and this morning everything was totally locked up except for the mouse pointer. It was moving around until I attempted to click on something and then I was totally locked up. I had to do a hard shutdown and then I restarted, but had the same problem. I restarted again in safe mode without a hitch and through a long process of elimination found that Windows Search was causing the problem. It is now disabled and my computer appears to be okay.
What would cause that and what should my next remedy/diagnostic/preventative steps be?
Thanks,
Chris

Which locations are set to be indexed in Windows Search?

When Windows Search was enabled, I couldn't do anything. How would I check from safe mode?

You can give these a try:
. defrag your drive.
. clean out your cache and temp files.
. get your windows updates (if they are not updated).
. make sure that indexing is on.
. re-enable Windows Search. -
Thank you. I'll try those things and see if they help.
