ok, so this has been happening for about a week now. each time i try to open Sidebar, it come up with the error message "Windows Sidebar is controlled by the system manager"...
i've tried several ways to solve this, but all of them are either concerning gpedit.exe (which yields nothing on my Vista Basic machine), or require running command prompts which i cant even do...i can never seem to type them right i guess...
can anyone help me out here?

Did you happen to install one of those other gadget engines available such as the Yahoo Widgets or Google Desktop? Maybe they are still on the system and prevent Sidebar from popping up in favor of their own...

i had Objectdock not long ago, but i though i deleted it. if it isnt completely deleted could that keep it from coming up?...
also, when i tried the registry edit trick, i tried to navigate to the registry key for Windows Sidebar under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows currentversion\policies\windows sidebar; i found that there is no "windows" option in my "policies" folder...? -
See if this helps: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/117192-windows-sidebar-will-not-start-vista.html
It is on the Vista64 forum, but has instructions for 32 bit also.
Have you tried the command prompts with an admin sign on? Most of the fixes will most likely require command line instructions.
Copy and paste if you cannot type them.
