Time to ask a question of mine. I feel kind of slow sometimes because I just can't find anything without the start menu set to 'classic start menu'. That said, here comes the poll.
The first thumbnail is an example of classic, the second is an example of XP.
Just to make it a little more interesting, cuz this ones probably boring. Quick laucn buttons, or no quick launch buttons?

I guess i'm just so use to XP's menu that using classic looks so weird to me that I can't stand it. Maybe i'm just weird

I'm probably the weird one. But I don't mind being the only one who voted for classic. =) I sware, they're both the same thing. But I'll look at the XP menu for fifteen minutes looking for 'printers and faxed' then someone will point to it on the screen in a second.

I personally like the look of the regular XP theme better than Classic. However, I've heard that switching to Classic helps improve performance.

Cool desktop Metamorphical.
I don't use quicklaunch buttons, but only because i have desktop sidebar and have all of my quicklaunches in there. -

Thanks, xptheme? Had some nifty wallpapers I barrowed. =)
I always have my most used icons somewhere in quick reach. -
Oh, yeah - XP and Quick Launch. -
I love quicklaunch...I have about 30 icons in there
-
Classic all the way ... start menu, task bar and everything else ... I practically switch off all the options in the performance settings

Nifty qwester. =) I was starting to look a little alone for a while.

clicking on the start button then navigating to the app you want to open is a waste of time. quicklaunch bar all the way. single click and your app is opened.
start menu is so 2005. -
I like the XP menu -- on the left I pin the programsI tend to use frequently, on the right are the windowsy-things that are useful, and I quicklaunch a couple things I use constantly (like firefox, show desktop, and my music -- I hate huge quickluanch bars).
-
Well classic start menu is faster. I use that when Im not skinning. Otherwise its XP Start Menu.
personally I prefer the classic start menu but the XP Start menu has its advantages like the my computer, my documents and other links.
Quicklaunch Buttons : yes but not more then 5!
ObjectDock : very precious part of my laptop -
I use the XP default start menu, but I cannot live without the desktop menu in my taskbar. Its pretty good since I can navigate to any file/folder on my system without opening My Computer folder and navigating through.
-
Its too bad there isn't a mix of both, I like the fact how the XP one shows which programs are used the most etc. but I like how the classic one, as soon as you press the Windows key, you'll be in the column you want to be in obvisouly as theres only one

XP menu.
When i'am helping a friend with windows 98 i use more time to find something then that i'am helping. -
I've been using the classic since 1995, and I'm sticking to it. Hope vista will have the classic bar.

I use the old school appearance and put shortcuts to my most used apps in a folder, dragged it to the edge of my screen, and made it an 'instant toolbar'.
-
I use the windows classic theme too.
-
Classic all the way. With some stuff in the quick launch and a lot of stuff on the desktop with keyboard shortcuts.
-
it's all about (hidden) taskbar + quicklaunch. desktop icons? pshaw !

I kinda prefer the classic toolbar, but I don't use the start menu enough to bother changing it. Classic look otherwise. 3-4 icons in Quicklaunch.
-
I prefer a clean desktop

-
I like xp and a desktop with no names

I used to swear by Win98SE and it took me forever to switch to XP, but once I did I really started liking the start menu and its aesthetics.
Classic mode is still nice and yes it does perform better.
I'm using a custom theme made by someone on this site, downloaded over at deviantart. This theme seems to use a combo of classic and xp mode?
After switching to this theme the start menu seems to respond faster and the taskbar even looks like the classic mode, but the start menu is XP-esque.
A hybrid?
Edit:: Whoa duckfart what theme is that? I like it~!
I dunno, but I like it.Attached Files:

I like the XP start menu, but my favorite version of it had the right column compressed so that only the icons were visible and there wasn't any text. It was the perfect blend between the great size of the classic menu and the activity of the XP menu. Unfortunately, the program I used (another Stardock thing called style XP or menu XP or something) over time progressively got slower at openning the start menu and I had to delete it when I got tired of waiting 5 seconds for my start menu to show up.
-
what application is the thing running over the top of your screen Niki?? Looks Cool. I prefer the new, XP style start up. I find it far more accessible
Windows Blinds looks AMAZING. I've just heard of it....here. -
I personally prefer the WinXP start menu as I can use it much more efficiently. -
With all the extra dock and theme, won't it make windows boot up slower? Since it has to use up a lot of resources. It'll clutter up my taskbar.
