Windows Ten Laptop Scanning and Repairing Drive Frozen At Startup?

Dell xps 15 9550. I had this laptop for many years. Windows ten pro. I turned on my laptop and it said it was scanning and fixing my c drive. Now it went to one hundred percent complete and has been like this for quite a while now.


The thing was few weeks ago, i had the battery swelling on my keyboard and i was told this could cause damage to my laptop. I was going to fix this issue soon as go to repair shop and have them remove the battery so i could use it plugged. But today, when i turned on laptop... i see this message. Now i also been having a ton of windows updates recently.


Now what do i do? I think this has to do with the battery swelling not being taken of for a few weeks causing this? I can't even get to my main screen. Is my hard drive corrupted? What about my laptop? What do i do? Please someone help me.

 

Okay, I will be going to the repair shop right now... i spoke to them and they told me they can remove my swollen battery and I also told them the issue I have with my screen but I will have to show them it.


So I just power off my laptop then right now then? Then bring laptop to it?


So first thing I do when i bring laptop there is immediately have them take out my swollen battery, and then turn it on right? So if i have the same screen issues, have them fix it? Thus don't have them just turn on the laptop as is right?

 

Okay... so I decided to just power it off after it was on that dell scanning and repairing screen for over three and a half hours... then decided to just power it back on.... and it does work. I type in my bitlocker pin and have access to my laptop right now.


I mean i could have done this hours ago when this happened but I did not because my immediate thought was the swollen battery caused this. Had i not had the swollen battery issue, i would have powered it off and turned it back on hours ago.


So right now my computer seems to be fine. So what should i do now? Still go to repair shop and have them remove the swollen battery or not? I should still do this for safety issues right? I was planning to head back to the us in a week or two but because of this, was planning to head back in a few days had my laptop not turned back on.


Again, when i go back to the US, i would be ordering either a new dell laptop or a new battery and new hard drive anyways b/c my hard drive space is low.


Would you say there is a huge risk if i fly in a airplane with my laptop like with the battery swollen? Make sure the swollen battery is removed first before I fly back right?

 

Laptop bought in late 2016. Had battery replaced with ebay battery that im pretty sure is a legit Dell battery over 2.5 years ago and now battery is over 92% worn. I will be getting a new battery and also ssd as its running low in space. Earlier today, when i turned on my laptop, i had this message of


Windows 10 Scanning And Repairing C Drive 100% and it was frozen on that screen for around 3.5 hours.


My concern was if the swollen battery caused damage to my hard drive or not and got this message. Few days it has been windows 10 updating but without issue whenever i turn it off... then next day it updates etc. I was deciding whether or not to go to repair shop and have them remove my swollen battery as this might have caused this. I asked on forum and someone said this message was most likely NOT a battery issue and hard drive issue.


Well eventually I decided to just power it off and power it back on... and i could get access to my laptop so that is good.


For previous owners of the dell xps 15 9550 series or 9560 or 9570 or any xps series, how long did you have your swollen battery for before you replaced it? I read it could be a safety hazard as in explosions or possibly damage the computer? Is it safe to use for weeks or months with it?



Did you all remove the battery and use it as is plugged in... in the meantime until you bought a replacement battery? From what I read online, some ppl say its a safety issue but i read someone said Dell said this isn't a safety issue?


I had the trackpad bulging I believe... for maybe a month... I didn't notice it till few weeks ago... so it could have been even longer. I don't notice this because i use it connected to external monitors and used a wired keyboard so rarely use laptop keyboard/touchpad.

 

The battery swelling where it raises up the trackpad... it honestly isn't that bad if you look at it. But is this a huge safety concern? The thing is I am outside the US now and will be flying back to the US soon. So I should 100% go to a repair shop and have them remove the swollen battery... then I use it in the meantime while here plugged in.... that is what everyone would recommend right?


I will be getting a new battery and a new hard drive when back in the US so I won't buy any parts where I am now since I'm leaving and heading to the US soon. But would airlines even let you board if their x ray machines see your laptop has a bulging battery? Again it isn't that bad when you look at it when i compare it to photos i see online. But no matter what, you recommend to have it removed before I fly right?


Also my other concern is this. I will still be using my laptop in the meantime here before I head back to the US in a week or two. So would you recommend i go to repair shop now and have them take out swollen battery... then I use it without battery and plugged in for next week or so... then few days before I head back... go to repair shop and remove the swollen battery? I ask this because if they were to remove the swollen battery now... and then say it doesn't turn on or whatnot while ac adapter plugged in... i would be frustrated b/c i still have some work to do online. So if i go there few days before i leave and have all my work done online... well even if they take out my battery and then it doesn't turn on... no big deal since I will be getting new battery and ssd when im back in the US. Thoughts and opinions on this?

 

Can someone who had a swollen battery in your xps laptops tell me how soon did you get a new battery? From reading online, lot of ppl who had the xps laptops have their laptops trackpad go bulge because of this. So this is a safety issue right? I read one or cases where the laptop exploded but that is rare?


So how long can you use the laptop with a swollen battery? So people in the meantime waiting for a new battery replacement, just immediately remove the battery then and use it on ac charging until they get a new battery?


For me, I will be heading back to the US in a week or two. So by then, I will have a new dell battery ready when I arrive. But do i need to remove the swollen battery now for the next week or two? Again, the laptop have had no issues at all for the last few weeks even when i noticed the trackpad got raised up until earlier today... which issue got fixed when i powered it off and powered it back on. Should i go to repair shop now and have them take out the swollen battery... then i use it while plugging in ac adapter charging for the next week or two until I get back to the US?


So my options are

1. Don't do anything and use computer as is until i get back to the US and replace battery back in the US.

2. Use computer as is for the next week or two and like 2 day before I'm leaving go to repair shop and them them remove the swollen battery... since even if it doesn't turn on... well no big deal since I won't have any work to do it on the next 1.5 days.

3. Immediately go to repair shop tomorrow and have them remove the swollen battery... then use it plugged in charged in ac adapter for the next week or two.



Has anyone with a swollen battery ever had the message I had mentioned in my original post? Thank you.

 

The battery must be replaced. Even if you do get a new notebook, you could still replace the battery in your old one and have a good spare laptop.

I don't think the drive corruption is related to the swollen battery.

Yes I know the battery has to be replaced. I will get it replaced back in the US when i go there in a week or two.

But would you suggest i go to a repair shop and have the swollen battery removed before I fly back to the US though?

I just though it might be related b/c when i saw this... i thought could swollen battery have caused this.

 

I would highly recommend that you remove the swollen Battery before you travel by airplane
It is a security concern !!!

But my laptop should work while on ac charger power right then? I still need to use it for the next week or so before I go back. If i have a powerbank... dell one which i do... i could connect to it as well right so in case i have a power outage, well, it wouldn't turn off immediately as oppose to using it charged?


laptopnoob, well i had no idea i had a swollen battery... didnt even notice this till weeks ago when the trackpad was slightly raised up... i couldnt even tell until i read online about it.
