Hey, I bought a T440s without OS. Now I want to do a UEFI-installation of Win 8 via a system builder DVD (EVI folder is included on DVD). However, in the boot menu I cant't chose the UEFI-DVD drive. I already enabled UEFI boot an disabled CSM-support in the bios. secure boot was already disabled. Any clue how to solve this problem?

I ran into the same problem today and the only solution I could make work was to install Windows 8.1 from a USB drive. I also read that UEFI will not install from a burned image of Windows 8. It has to be a Windows original disc. As they say DRM FTW.

You'll need to create a bootable ISO image to your USB drive.Have a look at this thread and the OP's instructions on how to download W8.1 and burn it to either a DVD or USB drive.

I don't know why you're allowed to install from a USB but not a DVD drive. It could be part of the secure boot sequence. It's why I refer to UEFI as an enhanced DRM.

To answer your question, it's possible that the BIOS needs to match the OS that it shiped with as UEFI is typically used by OEM's and they embedded the Windows activation key in the BIOS. That could explain why it might not accept DVD boot and installation.

I don't have an upgrade key, because my Windows is the full version (system builder). I followes this guide: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html. But it didn't work. I can't chose the UEFI USB. However I can chose the "normal" USB drive and install without UEFI - just like I can do with my DVD.
If I put the stick into a MacBook, I can choose EFI Boot. So maybe the problem is not the stick/DVD but the T440s and its BIOS settings.

What are your BIOS settings like? I chose
    1. UEFI Boot only
    2. CMS support on/off (tried both)
    3. secure boot disabled/enabled (tried both)

Each system is different. On one machine I had to enable secure boot. On another I had to enable RAID and disable CSM. It all depends. I don't own a T440 so I can't help you there. You might want to ask in the hardware forum. Hopefully someone owns your laptop or you can try emailing tech support.

Usually the compatible way is UEFI boot only with CSM enabled and secureboot disabled, make sure BIOS has option set to boot from Optical, not just HDD. If using a USB flash drive make sure it is FAT32 formatted and fast boot disabled in BIOS so it will enumerate USB storage.

That's what I idd. Infact I can chose the DVD and the USB stick, but without UEFI. On my friend's MacBook I can chose EFI Boot from the DVD/USB stick.
