Does anyone know how to supress/disable the nag window that asks you to reboot after some updates in Vista? The icon in the task tray is enough to remind me that I need to update/reboot, and that damn pop-up nag window really annoys me. Add to that the fact that one wrong click can reboot when you realllllly don't want to... yeah, so does anyone know how to supress that damn nag window?

by doing the updates? it doesn't show instantly. and you can delay it for 4 hours. if that's not enough to save your stuff, restart, and continue, i dunno. maybe you want to manually install them instead? you can configure that. and then install them when you have time for a reboot.

net stop wuauserv
in the run dialog box (this worked on XP anyways, try it)
Only affects the pc until the next reboot or login/out, then it will remind again. -
Meh. I hate the nag window. Most updates don't reboot, so I just do them whenever, but the few that do force reboot, I have to deal with that stupid window for as long as I go (days or more) between reboots. It's my computer, I'm an adult, I don't need some mother dearest app telling me I need to reboot when I don't want to.

I only use it to get rid of the popup during presentations and meetings. It doesnt harm anything, as updates function normally once you reboot. -

for a normal work day, that would, at most, mean 2 nags. -

sirmetman, you should be able to edit the registry to disable that notification. It will require some Google searching though. I don't recall how to disable it in Vista. I know I have disabled similar dialogs in XP...particularly the dialog box that steals focus and prompts for a restart (I hate that one).

If you don't want to reboot you could set Windows updates to manual but that will put you at risk of having unpatch security holes (Not that it is dangerous for a Client OS).

There are setting in the registry or you can use GPedit.

If you are an adult, you can check for updates manually, install them, and then reboot. Change the Windows Update setting to "Never check for updates". Microsoft doesn't release updates everyday, only on the 2nd Tuesday of every month (some updates out of this schedule).

I have them set to download auto, prompt for update, I give a cursory scan of what is coming in, then click go. You are right, I could check everything more thoroughly before installing, and probably should, but running updates isn't something I spend much time concentrating on most of the time, and most updates don't require reboot, so it makes life easier to just disable the nag window but leave the taskbar icon (which I always notice is there when it is) if I need to reboot to complete updates.
