OS: Vista Business.
I go to Windows Update Center, press check for updates, then text on yellow font appears: "to check for updates you need to install update for the Windows update Center." i click install now, then she(Vista)) writes "downloading and installing updates", and after a several minutes states an error " Failed to perform search for the new updates"
Error found:
code: 800B0100
also there appears another error: 80072EE2
The fact is that previously all was ok with Windows Update Center. yesterday i made system restore, therefoe tried to install all necessary updates, but as you see - i could nothing to do with it.
also during the first Vista set up, after system restore, in the window where one should check the box of what kind of update to use (automatic, and e.t.c..), i checked the last one - "do not make an automatic update", then i thought i cannot make an update, cos i checked this box, but i went to Windows Update Center, checked the box "Automatically dowload and install new updates" - but i didn't help.
there are something i found, but there is no solution for this problem:

Try this.
It's an alternative to windows update, it can be run from any browser. -
Thomas, thanks for the link.
So, the problem was solved. I really didn't do anything, except following: i had the same problem with Avira http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=210756&page=6
so i found this "if you previously ran Norton Removal Tool on the computer. This removed an important system variable, Common AppData", and yes i ran Norton's Removal Tool, so i downloaded missing "reg_appdata_winvista" after damned norton's removal process and now windows update is working.
Link for the reg_appdata_winvista http://www.avira.com/en/support/faq/details.html?id=213 -
