IE8 had been great in remembering all of my password settings, however, ever since Windows installed several Updates a couple of days ago, my IE8 has forgotten each of my password settings. Here’s a list of the 9 Windows Updates that were installed. I have no idea which (if any) of them caused the problem. Any suggestions as to how to repair IE8 so that it will again remember my password settings? I’ve tried to reset them, but each time I go onto a site, I have to enter the password all over again. I don’t want to do a System Restore if I don’t have to, so please help, if you can. Thanks so much. Here’s the list:

    1. Definition Update for Windows Defender KB915597
    2. Update for Windows Vista for x64 based systems KB9683389
    3. Security Update for Windows Vista for x64 based systems KB956744
    4. Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 – August 2009
    KB890830
    5. Update for Windows Mail Junk Email Filter for x64 based systems
    KB905866
    6. Security Update for Windows Vista for x64 based systems KB973507
    7. Security Update for Windows Vista for x64 based systems KB971657
    8. Security Update for Windows Vista for x64 based systems KB971557
    9. Security Update for Windows Vista for x64 based systems KB973540

So you mean that you just have to relogin to all your sites again? Clearing your cookies will do that.

This is nothing end of the world concerning so there is absolutely no need to do a system restore. Just go type your passwords back in again......

If you mean that IE8 no longer automatically remembers passwords, something might have turned it off. Just go to IE8's settings or preferences and hunt around until you get to something like a remember password setting.

Thanks TevashSzat for your suggestion, which actually led to the solution of the problem. Yes, I did mean that IE8 no longer automatically remembered passwords. Re: your suggestion, I checked IE/Tools/Internet Options/Content/AutoComplete, and Remember Passwords (which was still checked, as well as "Ask me before saving passwords.") I also remembered that sometimes going back to the IE default setting and closing and re-opening IE sometimes solves a problem, and that's exactly what happened. I've now rebooted, re-set IE to save passwords, and voila! Problem solved. Thanks again for the hint.

Well, it looks like I spoke too soon --- apparently my problem of IE8 'no longer remembering my password settings' was only partially fixed by changing the settings and logging out of IE8. Now it remembers the password sometimes, and sometimes not. The problem seems to right itself if I shut down the computer and reboot -- but then, after a day or so, it's back. Any suggestions?
