    Hi,

Not sure exactly when this manifested but my laptop when I try and put it to sleep either closing the lid or selecting sleep doesn't respond correctly.

The screen goes black but then immediately goes back to the windows select user screen. Thus if the lid is closed the fans and hard drives stay on which isn't a good thing.

However, I worked out recently if the laptop isn't plugged into mains it will go to sleep and recover perfectly (as it used to when plugged in). Anyone have any idea how to remedy a situation like this or where to start investigating?

    Thanks.

You could try the MCE Standby Tool. I haven't had these type of problems myself since I discovered it, but it's done everything else I've tried to do well. Definitely a better try than a whole reinstall.

Also make sure you have the correct chipset drivers installed. If there are any yellow question marks in Device Manager (probably called Unknown Device or Base System Device), you are missing some drivers.
