This wasn't a problem in the begining.
Just started happening recently. Not sure if it's a driver problem or maybe something I recently installed having some kinda clash?
I hit the power button and everythign sounds like it comes on, but the display never turns on.

    Any suggestions?
I've tried things like reg cure, messing with the power options in control panel.
    So far no luck.
    Thanks!

I've had this problem a few times as well. What works for me is simply closing the notebook screen, opening it up, and then hitting a random key.

I've had the same problem randomly pop up on my 1420. I put it to sleep by hitting the power key (which I have set to sleep) and when I hit it again the harddrive light flashes but the screen doesn't power up. The only thing can I do is hold the power key to do a cold shutdown and then reboot. It sucks!

I've had the problem with my D630. At first i thought it was a problem with intel drivers, so I downgraded. it wasn't, problem was still there. So i got the latest drivers for my intel X3100, and simply removed the automated sleep modes in vista. I believe the coming hot-fix pack for vista will solve this issue as I read at PC-world that there were fixes with vista sleep conflicts.
The hot-fix will be available as a automated update for vista, pretty big though. the beta patches were 10gb and 2 gb big :S we'll see what the final patches will be like very soon.

odd, as sleep mode works perfectly for me in Vista on my D630, and has been since the first day in installed the OS.

I'm using driver 165.01 so maybe that's the problem, I think it was working fine before that.
Well won't hurt to try to roll it back and see what happens.

I have downloaded and installed these new VISTA updates and the sleep (coma) problem still exists. The problem has been reported all over the Internet, yet no fixes have been found (other than disabling sleep mode). I am experiencing the problem on a Dell Latitude D620. I installed VISTA Ultimate myself as the computer came with XP. I wonder if the problem is common to folks who did their on upgrade install?
