Do you think Windows Vista is ready? Maybe it is worth to wait for the first Service Pack if you are not in rush. What do you think?
-
I think, along with a lot of people I know, think waiting for a service pack or two is best. Who knows, I've used Vista, it seems ok... still nothing great in my mind.
-
Nope. Vista is not yet ready. Most of the drivers for Vista are bugged and have a significant negative impact on performance, not to mention being totally incompatible with most hardware.
-
So when do you think a service pack can be ready? Within 6 months or sooner?
-
it will take them months to discover various bugs and hardware incompatibilities... then so another set of months to produce solutions to them... then set back again before it is released in the wild... next thing you knowis that the latest OS is created to have you thinking what to choose from: the old or the new one
wait for the service pack/s... most problems are resolved by then -
No point jumping into the Vista mayhem yet. XP's still the best out there.
-
Vista drivers definitely aren't on the same level as XP's. If you play GPU intensive games, Vista will take a hit on performance.
-
They are working on a service pack, and it should be out in half a year or so. And no, Vista is definitely not ready for primetime yet. I had no problems with drivers, but the interface is so badly designed it ends up slowing you down in many common tasks. The way every dialog and options window has been shuffled and renamed just to make it look newer is nothing more than a distraction and unneccesary annoyance. The security model is flawed, forcing far far too many users to turn off UAC entirely. And too many big common applications are incompatible.
-
im havin no probs with vista at all, smoother and faster then xP for me
-
I think the flaws in vista are highly exaggerated by a lot of people on these forums. I love the new options and interface, and find things (for the most part) very intuitive. And while I'd still recommend a separate security app, vista security is noticeably improved. Of course, if you have a lot of old hardware and software, or like to game, you might want to wait. Otherwise, I've found absolutely no reason that makes me regret switching to vista.
-
It is worth waiting a bit longer.
Vista right now has a lot of issues.
Just a little longer -- and things will be better. -
I agree...it would be better to wait. I don't have any troubles with my hardware, EXCEPT for my TV Tuner...but that's in part to the fact that I've got business equipment and a business laptop.
The support isn't there for everyone yet, but it's there for me so I jumped in. Maybe I'll find a few of those big bugs that you'll get a fix in SP1. It's kind of exciting to be on the edge... -
Vista is being improved with updates. I have had very few problems and would in no wise return to XP. As another poster indicated, by the time it is "perfect," a newer "imperfect" replacement will be released. Check out Vista-compatibility for your hardware and, if it checks out. jump in.

People, lets be honest with ourselves - Has ANY version of Windows ever been rady before Service Pack 1 at the very least. That is basically all you need to know.
Problem right now is that if you buy a new machine they will shove Vista on you and make you pay extra to get XP if you insist (perverse actually) so IMO its just going to force even more people to bootleg XP.
Im in this boat myself, waiting for delivery of a laptop where I coudnt get XP unless I paid $180 MORE. So I will get the Vista Business but frankly Im probably gonna blow it off the machine promptly. -
I am really wondering why people here have so much issues in Vista. My experience is totally the opposite. I am using Vista Business and the system run stable and fast. I almost having no problem with drivers.
My laptop comes in Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo). I found no lags, slowdowns, etc whatsoever. I like the new aero translucent black theme. It is a nice upgrade from the 5 years blue bars.
With my smooth experience i almost see no need for Service Pack to launch in a rush. But it still a nice to know that they're working on it.
So if you ask me whether the OS is ready or not, you get a Yes answer from me. My transition from XP to Vista is much better than my past experience from 98 to XP. -
People's usage varies, so their impressions of an OS also vary. A person who does stuff like write papers and surf the net and that's about it will not notice any glaring issues with Vista. It's completely fine for those types of things, but one could argue the same is true with any OS. However, a person that uses highly specialized hardware/software, is a power users that like to get his/her hands dirty in the system, and is a performance nut will notice the flaws in any OS. The thing is that Vista, like any new Windows OS, has so many of these little flaws that advanced users find themselves miserable in Vista. But if you're not one of these advanced users, you'll never notice a problem.
In my opinion, you should just wait. Unless you have some burning need for Vista such as Aero, DX10, etc... there's really no need to upgrade now. XP will run Office, Firefox, AIM, etc just as well (if not better) than Vista. Besides, it's not like Vista won't be around when you do need to make the switch. I think everybody's just getting caught up in the Vista buzz and are too happy to install it without asking themselves if they really need it. $.02 -
Most of the time i am using notebook for office applications, that is, Office 2007 with word, excel and power point to the most. With occasionally photo editing and playing DVDs. Vista surely have no problem with that.
I feel that Vista actually launch programs faster. I have 2GB mail in my Inbox and Outlook 2007 handles them very well. Launching the program is actually feel faster in Vista than XP.
One of my most recurrence scenarios is when i am opening outlook, opening IE7, some spreadsheets, dbf files, refference in pdf, and presentation file. Vista handles them without any slowdown. -
I found Vista loads slower on my system (HP w/2gb mem). My performance score average is low (2) but that's mostly because of the gaming performance. A couple of my programs are not compatible as yet .. x64 OS. Will try the x32 and see if the performance improves
-
Personally, I'd wait for service pack 1 and a new laptop, but thats just me. :]
-
-
some people have issues because not all of us have the same drivers and hardware config....
-
I love Vista and have been using it for almost a year. The 3rd party drivers are not up to speed when it comes to Vista.
Windows Vista - really ready now?
