hey, guys i own both vista 32 bit/64 bit and 64 bit xp .
    My laptop specs are:
    Sager 2090
    t7500 2.2
    2 gb of ram
8600 gt 512 mb of ram 128 bit interface

    My games i play alot:
    Call of duty 4
    Gears of War
    Team Fortress 2
    Lineage 2
and Need for speed pro street.
I want to know what operating system will give me the best performance with my system and those games. I know xp will be better but how much better? Enough to lose the cool 3d effects of vista? which i love to be honest but at the sametime those effects i think are just takin up etc cpu power and ram lol. But yea so what will the fps boots?

20 fps more on xp ? 10 or what how many or just tell me it will be huge bounce -

    THANKS to anyone to replies.

I agree windows xp will be better. But how much..... i would have to say its marginal. Maybe 3 fps more if that. Your graphics card is great, can can run all those games very well. As for the 64bit question..... It won't make a difference. The game runs in 32 bit mode, unless it specifically says 64 bit, which i don't think any of those do. So i would recommend just keeping vista, especially if you like the effects.

64-bit XP had a lot of driver issues. If you want x64 go with Vista and otherwise just pick XP. But whats wrong with 32-bit Vista? I've got no problems with it when I game.

What's wrong with it? It's old technology. People should move on, give progress a hand. I don't want to see another x86 Windows release.

An issue, if you will, with 64-bit Vista or 64-bit XP is that they REQUIRE 64-bit drivers for anything you connect to it (printers, scanners, cameras, etc.).

Although a 64-bit OS can run 32-bit applications it won't run 32-bit drivers so Vista 32-bit or XP 32-bit drivers won't work.

You must make sure that the devices you are connecting to your system have 64-bit drivers or else they won't work.

Yeah, but all new Sagers have x64 drivers, so it's nothing to worry about.

the problem is too many people use 32bit and its not fully supported and for whatever reason its too hard to make a game that runs on 32bit that also runs well or better with 64bit so almost all game and software developers go the 32bit route. I'm not sure what kind of performance increase 64bit would offer if everything from the cpu to 3dcard to the rest of the hardware and software was designed to run on 64bit but im guessing its not huge because its not being pushed that hard its just slowly being phased in.

just found this multiple benchmark test: http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=18778 its a benchmark used to mainly test the difference between the 171 and 169 nvidia drivers. But in these tests they use a variety of systems with each driver Xp32, xp64, vista32 & vista64 bit tests it really shows the difference and the result i think shows that 32bit Xp is the fastest.

I think 64bit offers other advantages like security and reliability (when its fully supported) these are the main advantages which is maybe another reason the average consumer/gamer isnt pushing the adoption of this. I've just been looking into this too and ive come to this: go with the latest version of XP using Service pack3 and all updates and you'll be good for awhile.

The biggest reason for me to upgrade to Vista was DX10 but as i think we've seen so far DX10 isnt there and theirs a lot of smoke and mirrors with DX10 as most features are doable on Dx9 that and theirs already a hacked version of DX10 running on Xp im sure given a few more months we'll have a fully working version on XP, that i bet will run faster then on Vista. In my mind theirs no reason to go to Vista.

I tried Vista early on, downloaded all new drivers and set it up. I used it for abit but i hated i really didnt like how cartoony everything was and different i felt stupid because i didnt like it at all like i was too stupid to learn something new but when i found out everyone else didnt like it i was relieved. It just isnt good. We dont need more glitz... i dont know what we need maybe every Xp user is different and different versions of Vista (or Windows9) should be made to reflect that. Some would rather sacrifice all the glitz for performance, some people would rather have a very easy to use interface with big icons for basic tasks, some people would rather have a thick GUI heavy with options and glitz... i dont know... i just know i dont like vista as it is and with everything ive read stay with Xp 32bit.
