Having such a good laptop system, why do I get such a low Windows Experience Index in the graphic and RAM?
-
-
Well what video card do you have? Also I am pretty sure the RAM score is based off more then the amount.
-
WEI is for insecure wussies
-
WEI is in secure Period!
-
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, and I have 4GB of 667MHz RAM.
-
How fast is your HDD? My HDD is the lowest scorer on WEI for my system. RAM is second worst. WEI is only supposed to be a layman's estimate of system perf anyway, if your computer performs well, just ignore it.
-
I'm not worry at all, but I get intrigued when I see people with same and less performant systems and get a better score, that's all.

Using the latest Nvidia drivers (from laptopvideo2go)?
-
Try different drivers. My score one the 8800M GTX is 5.9 but I tried another (faulty) driver and got 3.0 instead!
-
Who cares?
-
I have nvidia 8400M GT and my WEI for graphics is higher.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, I think the driver from compal is crap.

True but it doesn't aid in any way. Let's say we ignored his WEI score. He's probably using a crappier driver from his manufacturer (hence the low Graphics score). He would probably continue on playing games not know that his card isn't performing at it's potential.
You can get the latest drivers from laptopvideo2go.com/forum. Chaz has a good writeup on how to do install them. Link -
Maybe not but I think you're looking at your score from the glass half empty scenario.
The WEI index score will always use the lowest score as the final score which is stupid and Microsoft should have known better than to use this worthless benchmark calculator.
While you scored a 4.7 because of Windows Aero you had a much higher score when running games. And that's the most important one score out of the two, why? Because Aero is switched off while running games that are CPU and GPU intensive.
This goes to show why Windows Vista is much maligned among many. It was poorly implemented. It started out as a good idea but along the way through the baking process things changed. Microsoft may have wanted to bake a loaf of bread but what came out of the oven was a bagel.
UAC, WEI, Aero etc. were all poorly implemented. As others have mentioned use another benchmark score instead of trying to please a broken WEI score. You'll sleep better. -
But it's even more confusing than that. For example, coolguy gets 5.4 on 3D Business and Gaming Graphics with an 8400 GT while Wirelessman only gets 5.3 with an 8600 GT. Thus, WEI apparently thinks that an 8400 is better for gaming than an 8600.
I agree that the WEI should not be used for benchmarking. Now, if the 8400 actually plays games better than the 8600, then we'd have an interesting puzzle on our hands.
Also, the driver from Compal for the 8600 GT (ForceWare 167.59) is not bad. I tried using 174.74 instead and it made no difference whatsoever either in WEI or in an actual game (NWN2). In fact, the game stuttered after an hour or so of play so I reverted to 167.59. -
That's my concern, am I using my card to its full potential?
I think it's more like a donut, there is a big hole in it
My current driver is 7.15.11.6759 (1/11/2008). -
my driver is 156.10. why are our drivers different even though we have basically the same thing.
-
Did you get your driver at the compal web site?
-
WEI is such a crap, useless, benchmark. Ignore anything it tells you.
Look up a few benchmarks called 3dMark05, 3dMark06, HDTune, PCMark05...and then you'll get benchmark numbers that actually mean something. -
+1 with Greg
Use real benchmarks. WEI just generates random lotto numbers -
I don't even know why folks are so much worried about WEI score.
-
It's kind of benchmark, and for whatever is worth, I think if you have two identical machines then you should get the same WEI, if not then something is wrong somewhere, don't you agree?
-
the wei is as random as random gets. and i only partially agree with greg. it's a useful benchmark to compare different graphics cards and a basic idea of performance you'll get out them. it does tend to fuel little man syndrome if you use it for anything else.
-
yes..............
-
As I said, I don't look the overall score, I just looked at the graphic one, which is related to the video card.
-
STOP worrying geez! Play a game and be happy
-
I don't play games!
-
then don't fret over your WEI score. it's not accurate to base anything on. Between me and my friends, we all have different WEI scores for everything even if our desktops have similar specifications. drivers, overclocking, slightly different hardware and other variables affect your score so why even worry about it?
-
That's what I thought at first, but look at coolguy's post: his 8400 GT gets graphics scores of 5.9/5.4 while Wirelessman's 8600 GT gets 4.7/5.3. Unless somebody comes out and says that the 8400 is unequivocally better than the 8600 in every respect (much better in some, a little better than others), I would not take the WEI graphics report too serious.
That said, its processor, memory and hard drive components appear to be more accurate. -
Actually, I do play one game, chess, and I need lot's of speed if I want to play a good game and finish it the same day
-
Unless you're playing some very strange animated version of chess where the pieces engage in 3D combat, it will be bottlenecked by the CPU rather than the video card.
-
I agree, the CPU is the botleneck, I play chessmaster so there is 3D nice animation as well.
