What are the main reasons someone might choose one or the other?
The little Microsoft chart comparing the features of all the Vista versions isnt that informative. I have not used Vista yet at all.

Ultimate is for the person who "want's it all". It combines the unique features of Vista Home Premium (Windows Media Center, Windows Movie Maker High Def. edition, integrated DVD burning, etc.) with the business oriented features of Vista Business/Enterprise (the ability to join a workplace domain, BitLocker Drive encryption, Full Remote Desktop, etc.) In addition, it also includes Windows Ultimate Extras.

This was supposed to allow Ulitmate customers to get exclusive content, but as far as I can tell is pretty much on life support. The only things released so far for it have been a Texas Hold-Em game, Tinker which is a sort of puzzle game, additional system sound schemes, an animated desktop background program called "DreamScene" and multiple language support.

If you don't plan on using any business features, skip Ultimate, and go straight to Home Premium... It isn't worth the money.

Well, Im buying a dell business laptop and Business and Ultimate are the only choices. Im not using it for "business". Its just my only computer that will be used for all types of things. So what are the business features I wont get with Ultimate. Just want to make sure I know what has what and what I wont be getting if I choose one or the other. I cant find good descriptive info on this.

    thanks

Vista business has all the networking aspects vista can have, including full RDP and domain joining abilities. Ultimate has all that plus the multimedia features of home premium. Personally i never use the media tools in vista so business is the OS for me, but if you use things like movie maker, ect then ultimate is for you.

Same here, Business is my poison. I got 2 copies of both so I can choose, besides Dreamscene I don't use any of the other "Ultimate Extras" and I use non of the build in media extras (unless I had a huge entertainment center, then I would use the build in Media Center).

If you don't mind doing re-installs for SPs, get ultimate and find a good vLite guide.

I'm pretty sure there were one or two features that business had that ultimate hadn't...

I think it was an early chart or pre release chart that showed this...

    (definitely a very detailed chart)

Business has the option for extended product support for a total of 10 years. 5 years only for Ultimate.
