Im not sure if the information is correct, but I just my system information under the rankings on Windows Experience Index and it states "System Type: 32 bit Operating System"

Am I missing something or is something wrong here?

I thought its only suppose to run 64-bit?

I have a very powerful E1705, so im a bit confused.

    Thanks for any help!

PS. Here are my Dell E1705 Specs:

    Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz
    2 GB @ 667 MHz Ram
    Geforce 7900 GS
    100 GB HD @ 7200 RPM

The processor that you have is either a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo. The Core Duo (T2x00 series) can only run the 32bit OS, whereas Core 2 (T7x00, T5x00) is capable of running the 32 or 64bit OS.

If you purchased the system though Dell, you'll only get the 32bit OEM version...they do not ship the 64bit version and I basically think that is a rip off.

BTW, which type of OS you're running is not really an indicator of how powerful your computer is.

Ok let me restate this; I just received Windows Vista Home Premium, and installed it. I am running a Core 2 Duo (best one of the selections), 2 GB @ 667 Ram, 7900 GS... etc.

My system is made to run 64 bit.

Anyone have a clue what the issue is?

Yeah, I got my Vista from dell and I was really disappointed
that it was only 32bit...oh well, at least I'll have less problem with drivers.

Ok... that's because the DVD ONLY has the 32bit code on it. You have to order the 64bit media from MS here.

OEMs only ship 32-bit Vista even though C2D can handle 64-bit. Most likely, they do it for compatibility concerns. If you don't need to run specific 64-bit programs, I'd suggest you wait as upgrading will only bring unforgeable troubles.

    Once again, Thanks.

Like hehe299792458 stated, would you recommend me to stick with the 32-bit Vista as of now, and upgrade to 64-bit Vista later?

No matter what, Ill be ordering the 64-bit tommorow. Im just undecisive as if whether to instal the 64-bit once I receive it.
