Thanks, great
-
just downloaded it
-
At last... the connection is very slow for me though. I started more than an hour ago and I have another one hour to complete. Lets see what's the fuss is all about...
-
.
This is great news, now I'm waiting for the bulid in SP2 disc/image -

I am going to Vlite it and do a clean install.

or just do it manually. i don't trust vlite, and manual integration to disk is not hard. at least never was in xp days.
then again, i'd still like an iso by itself.
.. downloading .. -

It`s a little over 10mb bigger than the SP2 RTM that we got the other week.

Looks like the Workaround is to re-install from a original Vista DVD , or did i miss something.
Maybe the people behind Vlite will release an update.
EDIT : vLite says i need to install "Wim Filter" at 1.3gb before it can continue, I think i will give it a miss.
-
Ok, installed it and guess what happened... it crashed installing... I had to hold the power button down to shut down and then restart the computer...
I'm not impressed- let's see how it does otherwise...
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh detlev, why do you always have to mess up your stuff???
-
I closed all programmes, then started th installation - no exteral hardware either...
Don't ask why it crashed... the CPU was running on full - I know that because the fan was working away and providing a nie source of warm air... -
Is there anything different between this one and the one released to MSDN about a month ago?
-
But that wasn't a month ago - 2 week, 3 maximum.
And MSDN academic alliance never got it early.... -

Installed fine for me!
-
Just got done downloading a few minutes ago, quick too, only 4 minutes. I'll install it when i get home later.
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
but the system is at least still working and sp2 got installed? in the end, that's what matters, not? -
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
you should be able to, by uninstalling the setup files. google up for uninstall vista service pack. or so.
-
I did look for a cleanup tool in google.. that recovered 300MB max, but then removing the restore point (if I have to use them I may as well reinstal everything, I did it once and it broke Sony utilities, resulting in a reinstalation of the OS)
That removed another GB - so I'd say addtional spaceused by SP2 in my case is about 200MB - not that I'm happy aout that- but its OK
-
davepermen Notebook Nobel Laureate
haha, right, it's you again, caring about 200MB.
have you deleted the setup file? because that's quite big, toomaybe that'll recover your "lost" 200MB? hahaha.
-
It seems very dangerous on installing these SP2.
Question:
SP2 Changelog? -
-
@davepermen: The Windows Vista service pack setup file is much bigger than 200 MB.
The thread has grown quickly and quite fast...thanks to everyone who caught on so quickly and reporting back with results!
Personally, I won't be installing it until later this evening. I have to finish up a homework assignment and get some sleep (it's almost 5 AM where I am). -
It can happen - but its rare - that individual applications cause truble afterwards, normally they are quite safe.
There was a little pun there
By the way, I'm defragmenting now and am recovering space (for a change) - about 100MB so far - so in terms of "used space" SP2 is no problem at all -
All right, I updated the original post and added the notable changes document (link also immediately below). The release notes that were posted did not detail anything in particular, and were pretty useless -- so I removed them.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=129469 -
So, it is just an easy update that won't cause any problems?
If I do update it, would it spoil my Acer eRecovery Management? -
But I stress shouldn't. -
It's not working for me...
everytime I start it at some point another windows pops up saying something "buffer overrunning" or something...
Anyone know what it's talking about?
To be more specific it says something HP Touchsmart, buffer, overrun, and then the program is corrupted and something to do with the kernel.
I'm gonna try it again and I'll let you guys know the exact words if it happens again. Really annoying though. I wanted to get this up and running b4 class... -
I noticed my boot time increased significantly after installing SP2
. Before, I'm able to boot (moment I pressed the power button to a working desktop) in less than 45 secs. Now it took nearly 1 min 20 secs just to boot and another 20-25 secs before I could open any program. I already defrag the hdd and rebooted 3 times, but still the problem persist. Anyone else experiencing the same thing
.
-
Installed it fine on my system. I read that if happy with sp2 you can run 'compcln.exe' to remove previous SP1 files. I did this and it said it had finished cleaning. However when I go into control panel and view installed updates it still shows a long list of older updates.
I tried running the 'compcln.exe' again but it says that it has already been run on this system so it wont run again.
Anyone know why there are so many left?
Thanks! -
-
I had already checked my start up programs, msconfig and services.msc and the settings are the same prior to SP2. Nothing had been change. -
-
After my 5th restart, the boot time seems to come down a little
. It's now slightly above 1 min and the programs start almost instantaneously when clicked. I'll monitor the performance of SP2 for a couple of days more before I decide to install on my other 4 PCs.

I just completed the update myself.

Backing up before I download/install.

tried "Vista Update Integrator" to slipstream the SP2 but got an error trying to process the SP2 file.

SP2 just downloaded and installed via Windows Update. Everything is running smoothly so far.

Let that finish what it's doing, and it won't bother you again.
It's a one-time dealie after you install a .NET redistributable, if I'm not mistaken. Happened to me too. -
It is about time Microsoft released this to the public. I noticed it became available via windows update on both of my 2008 servers at work this afternoon and said finally! I have had it installed on my dv5z for weeks now.
