Thx for the reply. Yeah I should have checked how much space I had free before and after. Im sure it did clean but still suprised why 'view installed updates' under add/remove programs is showing all the previous updates I installed in SP1 and then at the top is the SP2 update.
If SP2 is filled with previous updates, wouldn't it still just have the SP2 update listed and removed the rest from the list? -
Downloaded and installed about an hour ago. Everything seems fine, although I'll admit I don't notice any increase in performance. My notebook does seem to be running a bit cooler though.
-
So far, three things have happened from me downloading SP2.
1. Vista Glazz isn't compatible with SP2. However, they have mentioned on their blog that they are working on it.
2. The Take Ownership reg no longer appears in the context menu (still haven't found a solution to this).
3. Zune Software Customizer 3.1.1 is no longer working.
Other than these three things, I haven't noticed any differences. -
SP2 just showed up on Windows Update a few hours ago and it was about 360 MB. Downloaded and installed without a hitch and no errors. Boot up seemed faster (will see again tomorrow) and everything seems to still be working.
-
I have just download and install SP2 as well.
I havent find any bugs currently.
VistaGlazz is unable to use in SP2 and I have bang it out of my laptop.
I think 1 GB of space gone too.
Well, I will restart a few times to check the stability now. -
I have check the stabilty and memory/processor usage.
SP2 decreases the memory usage.
Last time, my laptop was running 40% of memory usage.
Now, it runs 30% only!
However, I can feel boot-up is slower than before. Izzit due to the intake of memory decreased and caused it to boot-up slower? -

I have at least 5 less processes running.
Any other concrete differences folks? -
...for me my graphics driver in connection with the power management gt messed up...
That is the latest Intel X3100 driver on a Sony SZ on Vaio Business....
Reinstalling the driver hasn't helped... if I plug out the AC that driver starts crashing again... - if I plug it in its OK.
Starting on battery is OK, then plugging in AC too...
Not sure what exactly broke... but something did -
I noticed not only ram usage dropped,
and the CPU usage run stable as well.
Not like older time the CPU usage may got up and down suddenly.
However, the boot-up time really sux. -
Hmm, my graphics problem disappeared - knock on wood - I just switched into power saving mode and back...
Ram usage went down for me too - in the area of 200-300MB -

haven't found real differences myself, yet. but i had sp2 betas running since quite a while. -
Well, it just buggered my system! Seems to get past the Vista scrolling loading bar, then goes to a black screen and starts counting up numbers to 73571 with filenames in brackets, but it gets stuck on sidebar.exe. Last known good config doesnt work, neither does safe mode. The recovery console suggests that the file system is messed up, automatic recovery doesn't help it out. I'm trying a system restore now, hopefully it works or I'm gonna have to reformat.
Maybe SP2 doesn't play well with RAID, or with my RAID controller. Sigh. -
I belive that a Service Pack install work best with a clean install. I have always done it that way and never got a problem...
-
WOOT!

I got it back. Pre-SP2, but at least I haven't lost a shred of data. I think I will try upgrading the Intel matrix storage manager before trying SP2 again.

The STANDALONE DVD image of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 is now available. The image just contains the service pack, in full ISO format for you to burn onto disc. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are included.

Got my laptop updated just fine no problems. First boot took forever, but thats to be expected now everything is running great. I am running "compcln.exe" now as recommended and I guess I will see how that helps. I have been waiting for SP2 for a long time now so finally its here.
-
Is it recommended by MS?
Thanks in advance? -
I had launch the compcln.exe
I clicked Y and enter.
It said "forgot what alrdy is cleaning..." and den it closed by itself.
What is the point? -
compln.exe is the built in "cleaning tool" - only run it if you will not unistal SP2
-
That was some fast cleanup.
Only less than a gb was freed? -
-
Because after the compcln.exe cleaned the rubbish, and restart my computer.
I found that 500MB to 1GB freed up. Moreover, the boot-up and startup become faster.
Now, I am waiting vistaglazz sp2. The maximize windows bar looks suck with no transparency. -
-
i wanted to install it via the windows update panel. after rebot it told me "service pack did not install" and reinstalled sp1.. not other information..
so what should i do now? oO -
Is there is a way to uninstall Service Pack 2? I installed it and it seemed to go okay after 2 initial messups.
However I'm not noticing any significant improvements in terms of startup times or efficiency when it comes to running programs, etc.
So I want to uninstall it and then reinstall it using Windows Update and hopefully it will install correctly and correllate to something positive.
Windows 7 is looking more and more sharp however. While Vista is usable as a whole it's not the premier OS that it should have been and that's a shame really. -
As for Vista SP2, the most noticeable difference on my machine is that booting up takes longer than it did before installing SP2. It might be slightly faster during use, or it might not be, I'm not entirely sure, in any case there isn't that much difference. Eventually you'll need SP2 though... so just leave it, that's my opinion anyway.
