I have no idea why I just received this email from Microsoft Technet.
I'm not even a subscriber. I never even knew this existed.
But I thought I would pass it along.

No download link?

You are kidding right?

Welcome to 2006.
-
It's 2008. Anyway, i can see this thread getting closed soon, this has already been posted and stuff so there's no need for another thread.
-
I had even posted a registry hack to enable you to download it via Windows Update. Hello and welcome to yesterday
-
Why are you crucifying tinman? All he did was pass along a brand new post from the Technet website. And, Maximus, you have to be a Technet Plus subscriber to get the SP1 download link. If you have $349 to spare, you can join, get the download, and share it with everyone.
-
I just want SP1 to be everything we're hoping it will be...
-
MaXimus777 download registry hack worked fine for me, Ultimate X64.
-
Awesome! glad to hear that
-
Registry hack works.
I have SP1 now, but startup times have been slower on my notebook. However it managed to free up about 10gb on my hard drive. how? i have no idea.
so far, nothing special i can notice on my end. -
When you install SP1, it deletes your previous system restore points and shadow copies thus freeing about 10GB.
-
I can confirm that. I deleted system restore points (all except one) with disk cleanup and i gained about 33GB. I had already cleaned it a few days ago but it had already accumulated 33GB over about 3 days.
-
Isn't System Restore wonderful? Don't you just want to disable it and use Acronis?
-
I believe by default, system restore uses up to 15% of your hard drive.
-
System Restore IS wonderful. It's helped me many times when an update would cause my computer to crash. Acronis has its own useful purpose; I use both.
Anyways, I have the hard drive space so I don't feel compelled to disable system restore. -
I would set it to use less but it's not really a big bother and i can delete them easily.
-
Precisely how I feel.

ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Lol. What I meant was that Microsoft has been working on SP1 since Vista's release (maybe Q1 07'). -
33 GB in 3 days! This is way too much. I think that you install/update/uninstall stuff too frequently.

I have vLited Vista too. Why can't we install it? I don't follow you.
"Windows Vista SP1 will be available to the public in mid-March via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center." -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Because SP1 requires all the original components. If you remove anything, it will not update.
Kinda sucks.
You can, however, get a Vista disc with SP1 integrated and vLite that. That what I did and now Vista runs better than over. 700MB disc and all.

Where did you get an SP1 disk already, and how much $$? -
Read the end of his Feb 14th blog if you want to know why your bootups could be slower after you first do your update.
http://ptech.allthingsd.com/ -
Well, I didn't know about the component thing and I removed some.
I hope that integrating SP1 will be as easy as in XP tough. -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Unfortunately you cannot integrate SP1 like SP2/SP3 for XP. Microsoft just had to screw everyone over and it's next to impossible to do it (but there are ways).
@Jayayess1190, it cost me $0 and 6 hours of patience. :/

I thought so, but i didn't want to make any accusations. Just don't give any links to him publicly on this forum.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

Oh I won't. That's the one rule I definitely remember very well.
-
Very well then, carry on.
That sounds like an educated explanation. Thanks for the info. -

I have just checked the Updates, and there isn't one for me to be able to download from the 14th of Feb, mainly from the 12th, but non of them are called Service packs.
So what is with that? -
It's not publicly available.
-
It will be around mid march though.
-
That we already know. I'm guessing 11th or 18th of March.
-
We know, but apparently he doesn't.
-
Never too late to find out things. I posted a link for the DVD image of the SP1 disk (from Microsoft's OEM site), I think it will start working after the 22nd.
