If you have Windows Vista and haven't checked out the voice recognition, it's something you should really look into. All you need is a decent microphone; the voice recognition is built into all versions of Vista, from Basic to Ultimate.
I set it up this morning with my machine - it's really, really cool. ExtremeTech has an article on it:

Don't skimp on setting up the voice recognition - go through the full tutorial and take your time. It's very important.

Thanks for the heads up! I've have known about this but I've never tried it out. It looks awesome. Does it understand you decently? I guess this depends on microphone quality the most...

- Your willingness to teach it to understand your voice (through the training sessions)
- Your willingness to teach yourself how to use it.
They can be pretty accurate and useful in certain situations, but you have to be committed enough to learn it's lingo. As Dr. Evil says you must, "sprechity the same lingity!" -

As long as you have a decent mic you'll be fine.

Chalk this up as a plus point for Vista then! My mate was saying this is one of the few things he likes about Vista on his new Vaio. Like me, he's lazy and finds it a chore to press one or two keys. Reminds me of The Simpsons when Homer tells his computer to "kill Flanders" lol

Lol I wonder if that'll work for my neighbors...

Blah! Voice Recognition hated me. I went through the setups several times and did everything right but it didnt understand me. I'm glad y'all have good experiences with it though.

I was using my logitech headset. I dont know. I guess it just didnt like me. You know how computers can be sometimes
lol
Edit: my experience was a little more like this guys, except I didnt mutter little things to it, lol!

Been playing with it for a day. Pretty nifty, especially for opening programs and locking the computer. When I go out, I can just say, "Start listening," "start," "lock."
Though the dictation part is never accurate, like in that video. Saw that video last night, can't stop laughing. It was just having a hard time understanding my British accent. Is there anyway I can change that?
And I wish I can teach it commands. I was only able to add new words for dictation. If someone knows how, do tell. -

Great if you have a Tablet-PC. You do not need to use the stylus so much for just to start Internet or something.
Thanks! -

I find it much more easier and faster to type with my hand rather than talk, and then repeating myself, and then fixing the computer's misunderstanding, and then trying to repeat myself again....etc.
I think Vista voice thing is more of a gimmick and I find no real use for it unless you are somewhat disable. -
So will this let me say "MAximum warp Mr. Crusher" into the mic and get the Windows starfield screensaver? How about "Scotty, I need more power!" for managing power schemes?
-
Why not be SNotty, and try to reverse the airlocking beam?
-
Huh?
Anyway, "Shields up!" for enabling Windows Firewall. -
"Aye aye Captain" for executing a command in the Run window?
