    Hello,

    These are my questions:

    1) How soon after January 30th will Notebooks be shipping into stores loaded with Windows Vista?

    2) Can anyone give us a rough idea of the prices and specs of the *budget* model notebooks which will come loaded with Vista?

    Thankyou. ;)

I suspect the price won't change much.

I am a pc technician at circuit city. Most stores should already have computers with vista. They just may not have put them on display yet. We had notebooks and desktops with vista preloaded on them for about a week now. Last night they were actually all put on display. Every circuit city should already have them out. They are not allowed to actually let the customer take it home until the 30th though. They are allowed to pre-sell them now though. As far as the price, it should be about the same as before. A budget notebook is likely to come with vista home basic though which does not have the Aero graphics.

P.S. -- You can actually see all the computers at circuitcity.com. I don't know about other stores though.

I see, can you give me an idea of the specs of some of these budget notebooks? Like the ammounts of RAM / CPU types?

I wonder if 1GB of RAM and Dual Core will become standard on all notebooks now??

Looks like all the websites of retailers have computers with vista online. There are still some notebooks with 512mb of memory in them. These however have vista home basic. I would definitely get one with at least 1GB and vista home premium. You should be happy with that although 2GB would be ideal. As far as the prices I am not sure. They seem to be updating their website right now. I was looking at it though before that and I think I remember some around $500 or $600. Although these come with vista home basic. Get the home premium you will be much happier with that...trust me.

Staples also has them at the moment. Basically, the same specs, but a little more expensive.

Yes, I see... I was hoping that faster hardware (Dual core / 1GB RAM) would become the new 'bottom of the barrel' for the budget sector.

But alas it seems I am wrong... :(
