Well i was browsing the net when my computer frooze i had to reboot by holding down the powerbutton. Before i did that i tried to ctrl alt delete bur the screen just went black and a message appeared dont remember what it said though.

When i restarted the comp the screen would go black after the vista loading bar. I cant start up the repair tool either the screen just go black after i choose repair.

What could be wrong is it the soft or hardware please let it be the software.

Sounds a bit like what happened on Win7 to me recently...
    Anyway...

Try booting up in Safemode - then shut down and boot normally (my Vaio didn't want to boot for some reason - did after I did that)

If it doesn't work - try "sfc /scannow" in safemode. (Comman Prompt)

totally black, or black with a cursor?

Safe mode is a safe bet to at least get you going maybe, followed by a system restore. I suspect you may be suffering from the infamous "black screen of death", which has numerous causes.

If it is the Black Screen of Death, the only easy fix I have found which worked in 2 of 3 machines I have encountered it in is to delete a corrupt log file, found in

    C:\Windows\System32\winevt\Logs

As I said, there are many causes, but twice it turned out to be corrupt event logs (in one case it was the SYSTEM.evt file, and in the other it was the APPLICATION.evt file)

If it is not the Black Screen of Death caused by corrupt event logs, I found it easier to simply reinstall the system then find/fix the problem
