I have recently installed a new HDD in my DV2000 HP laptop and after passing the HDD self test when I attempt to setup window XP it gives the error message

"setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

I double checked that I installed the drive correct, removed the battery for a few minutes and re-try and still nothing.

Any clue as to what might my issues here?

Most likely you need to change from AHCI mode in the BIOS to EIDE/compatibility mode , then Xp will see your HDD.

Thank you Tinderbox. Where do I find the option to change that exact mode. I am only able to change the boot options, SATA Native support options, and passwords in the BIOS.

the SATA mode should be set to ATA/IDE mode... then XP should pick up the HDD fine.

I think he has it sorted, it would make no difference if the HDD is formated or not , once the HDD is detected it will be formatted for you before it install the OS.

Well XP is all I have so for now it will do to make sure the laptop has no further issues. Maybe later I will install vista.

Driver wise I will keep the pc simple for now till it's stable.

I did and thank you very much for the help. Laptop is up and running now and XP is installed.

    Thank you again.

I followed exatcly what Tinkerbox said and changed from AHCI mode in the BIOS to EIDE/compatibility mode. On my laptop it was found in the SATA mode that needed to be disabled for the software to see the HDD. It threw me off cause it was recommended that it be disabled for win2k and 9X.

If your laptop isn't officially supported with XP drivers by the manufacturer...there's not much you can do about that other than try to find alternative drivers. However, they're not going to give you any help on that.

It has the sticker "Designed for Windows XP" so I was hoping it supports the drivers.

So far no luck on finding anything. The downloads I have so far haven't helped. I will further my search and then check the HP site.

I can only find out how to do that via new installation and floppy drive. My laptop dosen't have a floppy in it so I am trying to download windows drivers from the Seagate site and see how it works.
