Ok, I'm going to be getting a laptop in December, and I just wanted to know what are the differences between Windows XP Home SP2 vs XP Pro SP3. Xp Pro is about $60 more.

I will be using this laptop for basic day-to-day things (internet, gaming, etc.) If you guys could point out the benefits of one over the other so I can make an informed decision, that'd be great. Thanks.

    Edit:
If it helps, the specs will be about:
    Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26 GHz
    3 or 4 GB RAM
    9600M GT or equivalent

Other than the fact that one is SP2 and the other is SP3 :D, the biggest difference between XPHome and XPPro is that XPHome has pithed networking abilities which means it cannot be joined to a domain and can only use so-called workgroups (essentially a peer-to-peer level network). Unless you're running a network with multiple machines where users have to log in and have their access to the network authenticated by a network authentication server (i.e., like a business network), you're not likely to see a lot of differences between the two. Certainly if you're just going to be connecting to a router with your system to get internet, you won't notice any differences.

The SP2/SP3 thingy is a non-issue as you should be able to d/l and install the SP3 upgrade for XPHome SP2 as soon as you get the machine home if that's the OS you end up getting.

XP Pro has much better networking capabilities compared to Home version.
To be entirely honest I don't consider $60 to be a justified price jump.

Performance-wise, they should be the same.

Although if it was me, I'd go with the PRO and be done with it ... or I'd buy a separate XP PRO install disk, slipstreamed both SP2 and SP3 (along with SATA drivers onto it) and that's about it.
Home just doesn't seem to cut it anymore when you are talking about XP.
