    Hey Gang,

I thought I'd consult the forum in reference to a recent software issue since this forum has been phenomenal in resolving notebook related issues in the past. So, here it goes... I have a Dell XPS 1280m notebook with Windows XP Home edition. I recently decided to reformat my computer and was unfortunately missing my Drivers and Downloads CD that originally came with my notebook. As a result, I downloaded the most urgent drivers from the Dell site and update my windows from the microsoft site. Unfortunately, my computer will no longer restart or shutdown now. There is no shutdown sound as well. So, in order to shutdown or restart I have to do it manually. Any suggestions on how I can resolve this issue? Quickest and most efficient would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    The Dude

    Hi,

As for the Drivers CD, I did contact Dell and they have sent a new CD with all the drivers in the mail. I'm hoping that will resolve any issues but was looking for an alternative resolution in the mean time. As for the event viewer, I'm not sure what that is? Please explain. Thanks for the quick reply boyz.

    Cheers,
    Dude

    Hi,

Tried the microsoft registry cleaner but it didn't help. I'm also getting a "windows virtual memory too low" message from time to time. I have to 2 gb of RAM and have never seen this message below. I downloaded a memoptimizer for the time being but not sure if this helps or hinders my memory usage. I just want my computer to run fast without any problems (utopia - I know! lol). Any suggestions on how I can reach this elevated/heavenly state would be much appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Frustrated Dude

Hmmm. Shucks, I'd make sure I had all the drivers and updates installed. If that didn't work, I'd reinstall again (frustrating, I know ;)) and install the updates in small amounts to see if I could pinpoint the problem.
