For no particular reason I've decided to reinstall my operating system. The first thing I did was move all my important files onto my external HDD. However, once I put in the DVD for reinstallation I got to the installing files part, and it says "cannot read from drive C." Also, when I choose the upgade windows xp option, it says "an error occurred copying file ____. The file is missing".I think I might have accidentally moved a system file(s) but I'm unsure of what to do. Also, is there some way to change settings on booting the cd when I start my computer through Bios or something? The reinstallation dvd does not work on bootup for me. Any help would be great, thanks.

You have to access BIOS via a special key & change the boot order.
