I just got an old IBM Thinkpad T43. It has the BIOS installed and I do NOT have a recovery disc. The laptop has the Windows XP Pro COA sticker on it but I do NOT have a recovery disc nor a Windows XP Pro disc for this laptop.

    Now come the questions:

Can I use an old Windows XP Pro disc to install and activate this laptop?
Or would any Windows XP (Home Edition) disc (from say Dell Recovery disc)
do this task? Or do I need to buy another license!? :(

Anyone know where to get the drivers and BIOS for the T43 as well? Thanks.

can u check the buttom of your laptop for windows XP license number, also check papers that came with the manual, if u found your license i thinks its not illegal to download XP pro from the internet and register it with your serial,or call dell and provide them with your laptop serial maybe they stored your xp serial , good luck

You want to get an OEM XP CD if you have that kind of sticker.

    you can either:
    - order the CD from your OEM or even Microsoft (clean version)
    - or download the ISO that is XP OEM

either way, it will make it nice and legit. :)

I have a collection of all Windows disc images (OEM and Retail) since I fix all types of systems. :) (I have them dated back to Win 3.1)

I don't have the manual Just the WinXP COA Sticker, and the thinkpad t43 with loaded BIOS. I might try to find a way to download XP pro from internet.

Where would I download the ISO for WinXP Pro? Anyone suggestion?
Or you guys think an OEM XP Pro CD is a better route?

    Thanks.

    same thing actually.

the ISO is still the XP Pro OEM.

the CD was created from an ISO of XP Pro OEM.

if my upload speed was good, I would totally send it to you

Where can you download a Windows ISO? Uhhh, nowhere. If Microsoft doesn't offer the download you are out of luck.

you can search google " windows XP pro OEM torrent " and download torrent manager from www.utorrent.com AS LONG AS YOU WILL USE YOUR LEGIT LISENCE while installing .
try to keep it legal :)

    We had this before...

When you use a non Microsoft source for the file and a legal key your copy is valid, the person who offers it for download is not a licensed distributor, thus breaking the EULA or other agreements.

i.e. it is not fully legal

As DetlevCM is too polite to say outright, this is another pointless Energizer_Bunny.gif issue - DetlevCM is correct (as usual). Furthermore, Do you have any idea what else might be piggy-backing inside that torrent; after all, even pirates have to make a living. ;)

    Law and morals.

While morally he doesn't do anything wrong (except jeopardizing his own security), legally he does.
