Well I know this is simple I have tried the XP help and Windows support guides but have ultimately failed.

I am attempting to get XP Pro in English to make the default keyboard Japanese as all I ever work with are Japanese keyboards not US EN.

    Thanks :p

you mean you want to type in English keyboard (romanji) and it will come out as Japanese (Hira, Kata, Kanji)?

    I do that. :)

    for XP:
    1) Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages tab
    2) check Install files for East Asian languages
    3) hit Apply ..... it might prompt you for your XP CD (so insert it when asked)
    4) (still in Languages tab) hit the Details button
    5) then add Japanese (which every options you want.. keyboard, hand writing, etc).

That should be it... you can set the Language Bar options to how you want it to come up.

I type on a Japanese keybaord in romanji to type Japanese. :p

I attempted to follow those steps but it wouldnt work. Things like the ` key in english is a switch between romanzi input and english and the rest of the keyboard is all US EN :(

Top left key, sides of space bar and things like the @ key are still [Shift] [2]

Is this on your notebook or on another external keyboard?

I have never seen that kind of keyboard .... obviously I guess since I have never left this place.

you can get a US English Clevo keyboard.

its easily interchangeable... no screws involved.

I prefer the japanese one, that is why I am attempting to get it to work in Japanese input rather than US ENG :p

Ok, I figured out the problem and solved it with a clean install.

To use any East Asian language you cannot install XP ENG without the US ENG keyboard, you can add the selected language but remove the US ENG keyboard after the clean install is finished
