    Sorry I keep cluttering this forum with my newbie questions... [ :(]

    However, is XP Pro worth the extra 75$ on a T42? I don't plan on doing any hardcore networking...

    Hmmmm.......I don't see much difference :), if you going to use notebook at home and no "hardcore networking". Thus it doesn't worth it. But its just my opinion, home and pro look same to me. Maybe people think different. Wait for more replies...

    As for the question at hand, Pro is useful mainly for enterprise apps that heavily use multi-CPU systems or networking. Usually, Home is more than enough for the average user.

    PS: If you want to use remote assistance, then you can do so through Windows Messenger.

    There is not difference between the to for performance. Pro has more networking abilites for offices and can support muitiprocessor's. Those are the main addtions otherwise they are the same.
