    Hello

Lately, I tried to experiment with the XP's Services from the services.msc. Unfortunatly I screwed up everything with the consequence that a lot of them are not running. (wireless, sound, etc)

Is there a chance to revert back to my original or to the XP's default settings.

Tried to re set everything from scratch but when restarting my laptop it doesn't seem to save the last alterations...

    Can anyone help?

    Regards

I don't know if there is a reg file that will set them back to defaults, but take a look at what you need and not working and enable their dependencies.

    Hey

Thanks a lot for your fast post!!!

    1 question
Can you please explain whats the difference between the "Status" and "Start Up Type".

If I set the Status as "Started" it is supposed to trigger the program when re booted. This seems not to comply with the instructions...

    Thanks

i think u can revert to ordinary setting by the following method

    start>>run>>msconfig>>general>>normal startup

this will load all devices, services and startup programs......if u had disabled any startup program previously using msconfig they will reappear again... so after using this again go to msconfig and get rid of the once again

    reply ur findings......... :)

status in services.msc implies the current state of the program....whether its running or stopped

startup type means how the system reacts to this program on system boot...it implies whether the system will start it automatically (automatic).........or will not start it at all (disabled)........or requires a user execution to start it (manual)

It's not the same thing. That thing prevents them from starting, but they don't change their start up method (disabled, automatic or manual).
Status = status (makes sense, right)? It means that it reports if the service has been started at the moment or not
Start up type = the way the service is supposed to act at start up. Automatic = the system automatically activates it at start-up, manual = it starts whenever it needs to and disabled blocks it from starting.
Go back to the services list and see which ones don't start and you need them to. Try changing the start up type from disabled or manual to the ones you know you always need and try to start them. If they don't start look at the dependencies (services needed for this service to start or similar, but not services that depend on this service to start tab) and make sure those aren't disabled.

I have here an attachment with my Windows Server's service list. It is similar to the one in XP, with the exception that there are a few supplementary services. Try and make sure that the ones I have enabled are enabled in your XP.
