I just did a clean reinstall of Vista on my Vostro 1710.
I created 2 partitions (kept the Dell recovery partition too) and both are formated.
I now want to set up a dual boot with XP. I wanted to install XP first preferably, then install Vista again. I boot into the XP set up and after it does all its initial driver etc loading, I press Enter to set up XP and it says "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"
I then have to exit the setup.
I assume its driver related, but Vista doesnt cause this problem. Will a BIOS change fix the error message? ie:

You need to slipstream SATA drivers into an XP disc. Or use a floppy drive. Google 'nLite'.
-
slipstream?
Is there any way to do it without using a program like that?
no floppy drives here... -
nLite is fairly easy to use, and there are plenty of guides on how to do it.

Don't know if i want to go that far... guess i can live with Vista.. -
Its really, easy, I've done it within an hour.

nLite is pretty straight forward, plus the windows CD you do make (Dell) will be compatible with any other Dell with SATA you wish to use/install Windows XP on. It’s best to slip stream Intel’s Matrix Storage Manager, since it would provide all the SATA drivers you’ll need on the CD/DVD. If you don’t want to go that route (which is the easiest and best method), just search Microsoft for a supported USB floppy drive and add the drivers on it. Just press F6 when starting XP, and point it in the right direction of the drivers (USB). If you find any of the methods not doable, I can help you out if needed.
Windows XP can not detect hard drive ?
