At startup, Windows does not boot and there is message that a pointing device is not recognized (something to that effect). It gives me the option to go into the BIOS. I go into BIOS and then exit, and Windows boots.

After startup, when I unplug the mouse, and plug it back in, it then does recognize it.

    What up?

need an exact error message, but how old is the computer? Could be your cmos battery is exhausted causing your computer to lose its bios settings when unplugged.

Go to Device Manager, uninstall all USB devices, and let Windows reinstall the drivers.
