    Hi All ,

I dont know if anyone really cares about this , but i just got a spanking new DV2700t special edition with Vista home premium thinking i'll change it to XP when it comes.

My belief is that it cannot be done. Maybe theres a more torturous way to do it. If someone finds out let me know sundru at gmail dot com

Following is a detailed synopsis on why it is not possible.

    1. Blue screen in XP install for non compatible ACPI BIOS
    2. the 82801 HEM SATA Drivers are pretty much unavailable
    even using the method below.
    http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=414
    3. Tried using F6 to load sata driver with Floppy USB reported txtsetup.oem not found in the iastor drivers provided in link above .
    4. Tried Goin thru Intel to download their drivers but its a freaking exe file that installs the drivers on exiting OS's no option to load it on a flopyy.

The Bas$^$#@ looks like they want you to switch to Vista real bad..

HP has been really gunning against XP recently, and I think that is probably part of the reason Dell is now again #1 in the USA.

Anyway, Intel ought to have the drivers available that include the txtsetup.oem file. Keep looking on their site. Without that file, the OS does not know what files to load for the driver and that's why you have problems.

Regarding the blue screen. This is a known problem with pre-SP2 XP disks, and maybe even some post-SP2 disks. I would encourage you to try to find one of the latest install disks available, and that ought to help.

Oh, and are you sure about the EXE file? Run it. I thought all their utility did was deposit the requested files in a specific directory.

Hi, You are right just read somewhere that the exe file needs to be called /a switch to just extract without installing ..

I will give it another shot ..

Or try installing XP with AHCI (temporarily) disabled in the BIOS (if there is such an option). You can then re-enable it later (with some trickery involved, but it worked for me). Search for AHCI or post here if you need more info.

The only problem with the HP machines (I hear) is that HP does not give you the option to disable AHCI/SATA stuff in the BIOS anymore. HP figured out that users were just turning this off to install XP.

There is no option in the BIOS to even move left rt arrows in. its just a summary of what the settings are rather than a real bios.

I avoided the AHCI / SATA problem by presing F7 during the installation, But I had some problmes with the sound / internet / Wireless / Video Drivers .-.

Anyone knows how to fix them? wothout internet is dificult to find the why.

2.- If it is an Essential problem, I will get myself a professional sp2

Yes, this works on my dv2700SE. Thanks a million. Once I made the slipstream cd booted up and loaded xp just fine on my other partition. I left the xp driver folder that they tell you to download on my Vista desktop so I could access it once xp was up and running on my other disk. Then simply went into that file on the Vista disk and loaded the drivers I needed. Still need to get the audio driver straight and my pre N wireless card updated. But so far so good and most all the drivers worked . I could then go onto HP site and update from their drivers on the site once my internet was up. Also download BCD bootloader free and fixed the bootloader so I can boot either Vista or XP. Awesome.

Perhaps so. But given the incompatibilities with Vista and older software, and XP SP3 just around the corner, XP still has some life left to it. :)

HP already endorsed Vista as their OS. So that means they will only install and support Vista

Ever been to notebook websites and see something like "DELL/HP/.. recommends Vista"

I have been looking and cannot locate any BIOS update for the dv2700.

What model and website did you get this from? URL if possible would be great!

    Able to get this done.
Need to have the latest BIOS version 2D or newer. Does support winxp.
What a great machine on winsp. Takes time to find all drivers on the web.
Most important thing to do before installing drivers is to install Win installer 3.1 After that everything installs and works.
