hi, i currently own a dell latitude D800 with 1.8GHZ pentium M processor and windows XP pro installed. Sometimes (just randomly) the taskbar and all the desktop icons just dissapear, and dont come back (sometimes they dissapear and then come back again, like some sort of refresh). When that happens, i have to use the task manager if i want to log off or to start a new task, but i dont know how to bring the task bar back. Is there any way to do this?

Also, whenever i go on to a search page, and type my search thing in the box (i.e. google) the history thing keeps popping up trying to match my search. I dont know how to disable this and i find it highly annoying.

Thanks in advance for your hlp!

Hmmm sounds like a corrupted file in Windows or not enough memory. I'd suggest a Windows Update first. What are the specs on your system, and how long have you had it?

Do you have the supplies to do a full Windows reinstall and reformat your hard drive? If you do, then do it.

explorer.exe is responsible for rendering the desktop. When you lose the desktop, is explorer.exe not running? If not, run it and the desktop should come back.

For starters, it's a good idea to check Microsoft's Knowledge Base for known faults.

Well whenver what you descirbed happens to me is because:

    1. I purposely killed explorer.exe for whatever reason.
    2. explorer.exe crashed while browsing a folder or performing folder tasks.
    3. When I hit the shutdown button and Windows begins to shut down.

Your problem is solved. Whenever your taskbar and desktop disappear, get Task Manager up, click Run, type in explorer.exe and your good to go.

for the taskbar disappearing run explorer.exe like Qhs said. there might be some malfunctioning software that are integrated into explorer, making explorer crash. check for virus too.

for the history box go to the menu, Tools -> Internet Options -> Content -> AutoComplete and you can uncheck the boxes.

Yes try the solution above. It's called "New Task" and not Run in XP's task manager, so look for that button or find it under File in the menu bar.
