Just installed some new memory on my wife's PC, as it was s**t slow. Now I get a message saying I need to reactivate windows within three days?!!?!

How on earth do I do that when it Windows was preinstalled?

Will placing the old memory back in work?

Go to control panel/system and activate from there. You might need to scroll or maximize the window in order to see the activation link. As long as you are connected to the net, it will re-activate.

If you just waited the 3 days, it would prompt you to activate automatically as well.

Switching RAM shouldn't trigger the Windows Activation... it didn't on my old laptop...

It's really hit and miss what will trigger reactivation... on my desktop before I upgraded to Windows 7, I had to reactivate when I swapped GPUs, again when I went to a different CPU, once more when I added more memory, and finally a fourth time when I installed a larger hard drive and cloned everything over to it. And not only that, but I had to use the absolutely horrid phone activation system for three of those.
