I have a copy a windows xp that is currently installed on my desk top. I want to creat a dual boot on my laptop with Vista 64 and xp. If I use the copy that is currently already installed is it going to create a problem with microsofts validation software for updates or anything else?

    It shouldn't.
But, you may not be able to activate over the Internet(if so, call the number it will give you).

like thomas said you may have to call it in... however you wont be able to use xp on your desktop anymore... or so Microsoft has led me to believe so far... if youre looking for a replacement for the desktop... linux is always good ;-)

You cannot install the same key on two computers. It is illegal, and MS will get you for it.
