I just bought a computer and it came with this CD. If I reformat my computer is this the CD I will use to get my windows back up and running?

Or is this CD strictly only for purchasing upgrades for windows vista (and not a 2 in 1 recovery also type disk)

If I plan to never upgrade my windows vista CD do I need to keep this?

I assume that your machine comes with WinXP? If so that is the CD to upgrade to Vista. I don't think that's the recovery CD. Maybe I'm wrong, more info would surely help.

OooOOo, I think that's the CD to upgrade to better version of Vista, like Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate. I might be wrong, what does it say on the CD, or you can browse the CD and look at its content.

I personally dont like it that much...

It just builds over your XP installation, rather than gives you a clean install, so things might get a little messy.

I would suggest just get a clean install.

Then again, the anytime upgrade CD is 5 bucks or something cheap if you order it online, in the case you lose it :/

f4ding is correct. This disk comes with your computer so you can upgrade to a "better" version of Windows Vista at a later date. Some users have used this CD to perform a clean install of Windows Vista, primarily to get rid of unwanted junk software.

Depending on who makes your laptop, you may have been given the option upon first boot to make recovery CD's, or your computer may have a separate partition on it's hard disk. Both of these contain an image of your PC's configuration as it left the factory. When you use the CD or hard disk partition to recover your computer, the computer is returned to a factory configuration that includes all of the junk software that most people had removed.
