OK, I can't figure out if this is a Windows thing or a Dell thing, but...

I have setup my own power plan. 50% display brightness when on battery. However, when I save the plan and exit out of the power options screen, I kid you not, the display gradually brightens back up to full brightness ON ITS OWN.

Why is this happenening? I can't keep my brightness at 50% on battery because of this. It's really weird.

    Thoughts anyone?

Does you laptop have an ambient light sensor?

    If so, then disable it.

    If not, then..

I just got it a week ago. Haven't done anything driver-wise to it.

I think its a Windows 7 thing because in my Asus G72, even though I have set the brightness on both battery and AC to 100%, If I switch to AC from battery I notice the screen being brighter.

It's really odd. As soon as I set the brightness to 50% and close out, within 2- seconds, it's all the way back up to max brightness again.

    I just don't get it.

What's the point of having Windows 7 power settings if Windows then overrides them?

probably wanna check the advanced power settings. I know you can set the dimmed brightness setting higher than the actual display setting.

I have the same Dell and the same problem. As much as I have found out, the problem is in BIOS, we have to wait for update. There should be such thing as "Brightness Control" in BIOS, and there should be chosen "User Defined". But we have limited BIOS and we are not able to change this setting. I have also contacted our local Dell, they told me to wait for an update.

It's a very annoying problem. On battery, I'm at full brightness the whole time, reducing the battery life by at least 1-2 hours.

The solution is found =) Please see steps below
    1. Right click on desktop and choose "Graphics Properties"

    2. Then Select Power, then on the left side of screen Power features

    3. On the right hand side there will be a drop down menu select the On Battery Option

    4. Make sure the check box next to Display Power Saving Technology is not checked.
