    Hello!

I have some problems with my machine at work - T42 IBM notebook [old one, I know  ].
Recently I was trying to get an HP datalogger to work on it, and after few things installed I was requested to do a restart. So I did it. Since then it doesnt want to start windows properly, only in a safe mode.
What happens is.. I either get a bluescreen with and 0xc000000F4 error, or if it goes to the user select screen, after selecting a user it will not start and come back to user selection again, or will display a 0xc0000017 error that application couldnt be started or thing. Ive checked microsh** website and obviously nothing useful was found.
Apparently this ..0017 error is because of not enough of virtual memory. I added extra stick of RAM, changed virtual memory to minimum of 2GB, usually it was using around 800MB and still the same.

    Anybody had the same??
    HELP!

The Windows instal disc repair utility does miracles. I just used it the other day & it was certainly the easiest fix to get Windows running again.

I don't think you'll want to use IBM recovery just yet because that will probably format your drive and delete your files. Where as the Windows repair instal will just reinstall Windows but leave the other files intact.

I guess that this machine came with windows preinstalled, so would installing windows from a disk wont ask for a key or something??

Edit... we dont have a windows disk anyway.

No disc? Rules out my next 3 suggestions...

Can you boot into safe mode? if so then you should be able to install the recovery console via the "Winnt32.exe utility with the /cmdcons option to add the Windows Recovery Console to the Windows Startup folder".

I don't think you can start a repair install from the recovery console, but there are many repair options that might help. Maybe the FIXBOOT command...

No disc as notebooks come with windows preinstalled, and IBM gives this stupid recovery as your windows recovery tool. Anyway, I forgot [stupid!] to copy some of the files that needed a backup and this stupid thing even if it is canceled wipes the partition out... let hope some of the format recovery software will help. I could boot into safe mode, it wasnt the boot record problem or anything so I dont think the WRC would help? Anyway, my bigger problem is to get this data rescued...

    Perhaps I am missing something:

    did you (from safe mode)
    a) uninstall the HP Logger
    b) run system restore

Already ran IBM recovery huh... Well then I guess any more suggestions would be moot...

Well good luck retrieving those files! I think I saw a program in the best free software sticky that might help.

    This one maybe:
