Windows 7 on my HP Dm1 only gives a percentage.

The power usage can not be read by RMClock.

    Any idea why this is?

My BIOS is up to date.

HP does not make the estimated battery time available.
If you want to check your battery life and other battery details, try Battery Bar. It's this awesome all in one program that tells you your battery life based on historical data, and more!

It's not very accurate though, it's basically a never ending average calculation based on the time elapsed before the battery goes down 1% and tries to estimate how long it'll last.

thanks for the tips. I've tried Battery Bar. On my 1810tz it messed up my OS, on my DM1 it isn't accurate. I've read a lot of similar complaints about it.

Have you tried installing with just a retail disc and downloading the necessary software that you need?
This is not a problem for me in W7.

Yes this is on a clean install.

    That's probably the answer.

Perhaps because Windows can not predict how YOU are going to use YOUR machine from minute to minute.

It's an HP thing. Clean installed XP on an old laptop, same thing, clean installed Vista and 7 on current hardware, same thing. I've read though that on Linux they're able to get time, and as others suggested, you can get a rough estimate using some software. Personally I use a battery gadget to get a rough estimate. It's nice to get a rough estimate than no estimate sometimes. Weird that Windows can't do it, but Linux can natively, unless Linux does it the way software on Windows does it.

Not all the HPs have this symptom. But ya. It sounds you didn't make a mistake but rather it is "working as intended."
