I recently took advantage of the Win10 free upgrade, I upgraded from Win7, the download/install went smoothly until I tried to watch a movie via "Windows dvd player" that was included with the Win10 upgrade. Long story short the player does not work.
Troubleshooting and driver update both checked out ok. I downloaded VLC's media player and it too would not play dvd's (I've tried multiple dvd's) I went back to Win7 to see if dvd's would still play there, just as they had before, sure enough dvd's played in Win7 on both WMC and VLC.
I tried again in Win10, nothing! Is there a "fix" for this issue or is my dvd player now rendered useless in Win10?

From what I read you must buy the Windows DVD player from MS apps software page. This is not a freebie.

What error message are you getting?Primes likes this. -
When attempting to use VLC with Win10 I get the following error msg...
"Your input can’t be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL ‘ dvd://F:\’. Check the log for details."
When I check the events log it states the following...
"Device IDE could not be migrated."
VLC works with my Win7, but not with my Win10, though I know it should work. Is this maybe a Codecs issue? -
Try playing a ripped DVD from a usb to see what happens.
Sorry. -
I concur, it seems the drive is not being recognized by Win10, i'm not sure why. I've come across a few "fixes" online that are supposed to address this issue but none work, at least for me. I guess i'll just have to wait for MS to work out the bugs in Win10, of which there are many!

Update: After installing the most recent Win 10 build 10586 (threshold 2) the 'Windows dvd player' now functions properly. My intermittent non-responsive mouse issue appears to be resolved as well. Hopefully Win 10 eventually becomes as stable and trusty as Win 7 was/is.

"Windows dvd player" in Win10 doesn't appear to work.
