This behavior just started in the last 2-3 days.

    OS: Windows 8.1 (with updates)
Platform: Alienware Aurora AND Alienware 18 laptop

These systems have been running fine for a while without issue. Two or three days ago, they suddenly started un-swapping my mouse buttons when the system wakes up out of sleep (or from a total shutdown). When I open Control Panel -> Mouse, it shows that the mouse is "left handed" as it is supposed to be. But, to get the left-handed behavior I desire, I have to change it to "right handed".

This isn't an emergency, of course, but it is rather annoying.

Are you using the native Windows support for the mice or a specific program?

Yes, I am using the native drivers on both systems.

The desktop is using the Alienware mouse that came with the system, and the laptop has a Microsoft USB mouse.

Okay, I think that I figured it out.

My desktop and laptop were both set to synchronize host settings with the cloud. The laptop touch pad does not have the buttons reversed. So when the laptop pushed the sync, it resulted in my desktop mouse buttons getting unreversed, and visa versa. I disabled the mouse/keyboard sync on my desktop and the problem has not happened again.

FWIW ... I had this same thing happen with the power settings.
